Howard’s father made him a small studio in their basement comprising a tape machine, turntable and a microphone, which Howard then used to record his prank calls, commercials and sketches. He was offered a scholarship from Elmira College, but instead chose to enroll at Boston University and pursued a degree in communications.

He launched his career while still at college, as he worked for the radio station WTBU, and went on to create his own show “The King Schmaltz Bagel Hour” with his three college friends. During those years, Howard was often smoking weed, taking LSD and Quaaludes, but still obtained his radio-telephone operator license from the Radio Engineering Institute of Electronics, and then started working at WNTN radio station.

After he started hosting his own “The Howard Stern Show”, he named himself ‘King of All Media’, and released his book “Private Parts” on 7 October 1993, which was a big commercial success as the first 225,000 copies were sold in only a couple of hours, and a million copies in two weeks.

He announced on 22 March 1994 that he was going to become a candidate for Governor of New York, but after winning the first round with 287 out of 381 votes, he had to complete a financial disclosure which he declined to do and thus withdrew from the race. Howard had promised to bring back the death penalty and remove highway tolls if he had become Governor.

He founded his own Howard Stern Production Company in June 1994, and then on 7 November 1995 released his second book “Miss America”. His book “Private Parts” was turned into a movie and premiered on 27 February 1997, becoming a hit and grossing over $41 million in the USA.

He continued to be very active in various fields for the following two decades and on 14 May 2019, Howard released his third book “Howard Stern Comes Again”.

After his divorce from Deborah’s mother, Howard dated the American actress Angela Kay Everhart, and the American model Robin Simone Givens, then in 2000 he started seeing the TV host Beth Ostrosky, whom he married on 3 October 2008 – they have since been together without any rumors or controversies surrounding their marriage.
