Early life and education
Julie was raised in Washington D.C. by her father who was a firefighter, and her mother who was teaching at a local elementary school. She became interested in modelling at a very early age, and started doing gymnastics upon enrolling at high school.

Upon matriculation, she enrolled at the University of Washington on a gymnastics scholarship, and also started competing in beauty pageants, winning two titles in the Miss America beauty pageant. She became interested in acting at the same time, appearing in nearly all of the plays performed at the university. She was also chosen to spend a year in Asia, where she learned about martial arts. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1992, while she is still practicing martial arts under Benny Urquidez, a martial arts choreographer, kickboxer and actor.
Career as an actress
She won her first role in the play “Follies on Broadway” in 1988 but didn’t gain recognition or start winning important roles until she was noticed by Joel Silver, a famous producer and actor, who wanted Julie to star in the thriller film “Road House” in 1989 alongside Patrick Swayze, and which made her a star. The film also stars Kelly Lynch and Sam Elliott, and follows Swayze as he starts working as a security man (bouncer) at a newly built roadside bar. In 1991 she was invited to co-star in the film “Point Break” alongside Keanu Reeves, and after fighting Keanu in one of the scenes, the magazine “New York Times” called her ‘The Babe who Nuked Keanu”. In 1993, she appeared in the horror film “Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday”, being the one to finally kill the bad guy Jason.
She was then cast to appear in the film “Witchboard 2” in 1993, which stars Ami Dolenz and Christopher Michael Moore, and follows a woman who, after using a Ouija board, starts receiving messages from a supernatural being. She was invited to appear in the film “Batman & Robin” in 1997, and then in 2002 she starred alongside Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson in the film “The Scorpion King”, which became a huge hit worldwide. Julie has also appeared in many TV series, making her debut appearance in “Baywatch” in 1995, the series which stars David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson and which was popular worldwide. She appeared in “The Man Show” in 1999 then in “She Spies” in 2002.
She gained recognition after appearing in “Desperate Housewives” in 2004, the show which stars Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman and Marcia Cross, and follows several women living in the same neighborhood who are trying to solve the mystery of their neighbor’s suicide.In 2005, Julie appeared in “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody”, and a year later in the TV series “In Justice” and the film “Ghost Whisperer”. Some of Julie’s latest roles have been in the movie “The Legends of Nethiah” in 2012, the TV show “SEAL Team” in 2017 for which she was nominated for an Emmy Award for an outstanding stun coordination, and in the short movie “The Biggest Elephant” in 2018.
Being a stuntwoman
Thanks to her interest in martial arts, Julie won her first role as a stuntwoman in 1996 in the movie “Last Exit to Earth”, before being cast to appear in “Most Wanted” and “Double Tap” in 1997. She has even appeared in “Titanic” before appearing in “Domino” in 2005. Some of the other shows and movies in which she has served as a stuntwoman include “The Newsroom”, “Matador”, and “Jane the Virgin”.
Love life and husband
Julie met Peewee Piemonte when they were both shooting for a film in 1991 – he asked her to marry him in 1992, and the wedding was held in 1993 with more than 200 people attending it. It appears as the two have no children together.
