She became interested in Japanese culture at a very early age as she began watching anime and listening to their music, while she also started playing video games and spent most of her spare time with boys rather than with girls. Reina attended a local high school at which she was physically active, as she played soccer for the school’s team and also practiced playing the guitar, and her acting skills with the school’s drama club. After she matriculated in 2006, she chose not to enroll at a college, but to find a job to financially support herself.

Career as a social media star

Reina’s channel is today subscribed to by over 400,000 people, and counts close to 26 million views of all her videos combined – besides anime, she also uploads other content related to Japan, such as videos concerning its language and culture. Two of her most popular videos are “What a Modern Japanese House Looks Like | House Tour” as it has been watched close to 3.5 million times since 7 November 2016, and “MECHA UDE Full Episode English Dub”, which has been viewed over 1.8 million times since 11 May 2019.

Reina made her voicing debut in 2017, when cast to lend her voice to Darla in the episode “Jasper Dies at the End” of the animated adventure comedy series “Camp Camp”, and in the same year voiced DJ Aoyama in the episodes “Crepe Craving” and “Popcorn Panic” of the animated series “Urahara”. She went on to voice Daichi in the short drama film “Maydeleh and the Prisoner”, written and directed by Maya Ben Yair and which starred Nami Paix, Milt Kogan and Stewart J. Zully – the story follows a holocaust survivor who remembers the time when she was little and had a Japanese caretaker named Haruka.

Love life and relationships

Reina prefers to keep the details of her love life to herself, but it’s widely known that she is a married woman and that her other half is Michael Flusk. The two met at a cosplay event in the early 2010s, at which they were introduced by a mutual friend, and it was Reina who asked Michael out on a date is he is very shy and as she has claimed that he probably wouldn’t have made the first move. They became engaged in 2014, and married in a private ceremony attended by their closest friends and family in 2016.

Michael is a non-celebrity man, who is also a huge fan of everything that has anything to do with Japan – he likes to watch animes, movies made by the famous Studio Ghibli, and generally enjoys ‘all things nerdy’.

Reina hasn’t talked about any other men she might have been with before meeting Michael, so as of October 2020, she is married and doesn’t have children.

Hobbies and other interests

Reina likes to play video games, and although she is mostly focused on Japanese animated games, she is also keen on playing a few of the most popular games of today, including “Fortnite” and “League of Legends”.

She likes to travel, especially around Asia, and has already been to many Asian countries – Reina is very sensitive when it comes to Japan, and has condemned the actions of the YouTuber Logan Paul who has uploaded a video onto his YouTube channel which features him showing a dead body in a Japanese forest, which is known as the place where many people go to commit suicide.

In her spare time and mostly late at night, Reina likes to watch movies featuring some of her favorite Japanese actors and actresses – Haruma Miura, Takeru Satoh and Suzu Hirose – such as “Attack on Titan”, “Kimi ni Todoke” and “Crows Zero 2”.
