American actress Cassandra ‘Cassi’ Davis-Patton was born in Holly Springs, Mississippi USA, on 31 July 1964, making Leo her zodiac sign. She’s had roles in 31 TV series and movies, and is probably known best for playing one of the main characters Aunt Bam in the 2019 comedy film “A Madea Family Funeral”, which Tyler Perry wrote and directed, as well as starred in; the film follows Madea and her family as they’re travelling to attend a funeral, and it was nominated for seven awards.

Education and early life

Cassi was raised in Holly Springs by her deeply religious Christian father and mother, but because she respects their privacy, not many details have been disclosed about them; Cassi hasn’t spoken about whether or not she has siblings, and is believed to be an only child.

She became interested in both music and acting while attending a local high school; Cassi went to church with her parents at least once a week, and was on the church choir.

She matriculated in 1982 and then enrolled at Spelman College, from which she was to graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in music in 1986, however, because she wasn’t allowed to perform religious music at her senior recital, Cassi dropped out only a single credit away from graduation – she returned to Spelman in 2008, and graduated in November of the same year.

It follows a teenager who wants to join his college’s most popular fraternity, and the film was nominated for an Image Award for Outstanding Motion Picture.

Her only film role in the ‘90s was starring as Kate in the 1994 short drama “Silent Bomb”, directed by Kim Fields, and which also starred LaRita Shelby and Linda Brown; it follows a police officer who’s just learned that she’s infected with HIV.

In 2001, Cassi played Cook in the historical drama “Boycott”, and was then cast to appear in the 2004 musical comedy “He Say… She Say… But What Does GOD Say?”, the 2005 comedy “Love on Layaway” and the 2006 romantic comedy “Madea’s Family Reunion”. She portrayed Rita in the 2007 romantic drama “Daddy’s Little Girls”, which Tyler Perry wrote and directed, and which starred Gabrielle Union, Idris Elba and Tracee Ellis Ross. It follows a car mechanic who’s trying to get custody of his children because his former girlfriend’s a drug addict, while he’s now fallen in love with his lawyer; the film was nominated for a BET Award for Best Actor (Idris Elba).

Some of Cassi’s following roles were in the 2011 comedy “Madea’s Big Happy Family”, another 2011 comedy “A Madea Christmas” and the 2012 comedy “Aunt Bam’s Place”. She played Jenice in the 2014 drama “Hamlet & Hutch”, directed by Jared Young and Matthew Young, and which starred Burt Reynolds, Elizabeth Leiner and Emma Rayne Lyle. It follows the life of a former Broadway actor who’s now old and suffering from Alzheimer’s.

Cassi’s three most recent film roles have been in the 2017 horror comedy “Boo 2! A Madea Halloween”, the 2020 comedy “Madea’s Farewell Play” and the 2022 romantic comedy “Tyler Perry’s A Madea Homecoming”.

Roles in TV series

Cassi’s debut TV series role was playing Francine in the 1993 episode “In the Black Is Beautiful” of the comedy “Living Single”, and the following year saw her play Nurse in the episode “Food Chains” of the mystery thriller “Chicago Hope”.

From 1999 through 2001, Cassi starred as HUD Woman (voice role) in the animated comedy “The PJs”, created by Eddie Murphy and Steve Tompkins, and which also starred Loretta Devine and Ja’net DuBois.
