Tony Hawk is a skateboard pioneer, and one of the best skateboarders in the world. He has his own legacy, and his heir is his son – Riley Hawk – a professional skateboarder, but unlike his father who is a prominent vert skateboarder, Riley is feeling more relaxed while doing street tricks on his skateboard. Born as Hudson Riley Hawk on the 6th December 1992 in Carlsbad, California USA, he is the son of Tony Hawk and his first wife and high school sweetheart, Cindy Dunbar.

He is the only child from their relationship – his parents divorced only a year after his birth. Since then, his father remarried three times, and Riley now has three half-siblings, which includes the musician Gupi, real name Spencer Hawk. From an early age, Riley became interested in skateboarding, watching his father dominate the skateboarding ramps and parks. Gradually his interest increased and he started showcasing his own skills.

Professional Career

Before turning pro, Riley practiced his skills only as an amateur, then in 2013 when he turned 21 years old, be became a professional skateboarder, while on the same day, he was named the Amateur of the Year by Skateboarder Magazine.

Since becoming pro, Riley has been sponsored by Baker Skateboards and Lakai. He made his first X Games appearance in 2014, and since then has contested two more times, but he is yet to win a medal. Although he is still in the shadow of his father, Riley has managed to succeed on his own, and is a self-made man.

He has also been featured in the Tony Hawk Skateboarding video games, making his first appearance in “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD”, then in “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5”.

Riley is also fond of music, and is a guitar player and a member of two bands.

Growing up, Tony figured out that he was hyperactive and had to find something to focus on. He was really harsh on himself, and whenever he would fail to achieve his goal, he would find a way to punish himself. After a talk with the school psychologist, Tony did the IQ test and the result was an IQ of 144. As a result, he went to Jean Farb Middle School from 1980 to 1981. Nevertheless, skateboarding became his main interest, and he became a professional skateboarder when 14 years old.

Career

From 1983 until 2003, Tony won 64 contests, which made him the best skateboarder in the world. In 1999 he became the first skateboarder to make a 900-degree aerial spin. He retired following 2003, but is still involved in skateboarding, building parks, setting up ramps, and creating new professional tours. He is also the subject of skateboarding video games, starting with the “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater” in 1999. Since then, there have been 18 more games, which includes 10 main series, four spin-off games, and 4 repackages.

Tony has also made a number of appearances in films and TV series, including the film “xXx” in 2002, then a minor role in the film “Lords of Dogtown” starring the deceased Heath Ledger, and has made over 50 appearances as himself in various films and TV series, such as “Last Man Standing” (2012), “Breaking In” (2012), then “Parental Guidance”, and most recently in the television movie “Sharknado 5: Global Swarming” (2017).
