From an early age, Jonah began expressing interest in poetry and music, but before launching his music career he would attend poetry festivals with his family during summer, a practice he has continued following his musical breakthrough. He has left school since he started pursuing music, though his mother hopes that he will enroll into college in the future.

Career Beginning

Jonah was involved in music way before he joined Why Don’t We; he started online with the YouNow platform, and soon caught the attention of Chad Grier, the father of internet sensations Nash and Hayes Grier.

With them, he went on a DigiTour through the US, visiting such cities as Los Angeles, Memphis, Dallas and others. His popularity increased, and he was able to land some record deals. His first single came out in 2015, entitled “I Meant It”, and the same year he released a second song, “Night Changes”, and the following year his third single – “Next Ex-Girlfriend – followed by his debut EP “When the Daylight’s Gone”, which received positive reviews by both fans and critics.

Creation of the Why Don’t We and Debut Release

Jonah, like other musicians who started uploading videos on social media platforms, got in touch with Zach Herron, Daniel Seavey, Jack Avery, and Corbyn Besson, and they began collaborating together in 2015, which eventually gave birth to the new boy band Why Don’t We, finally announced in September 2016. The debut single came out in October 2016, entitled “Taking You”. The band continued to work on new music and their debut EP came out on the 25th November 2016, entitled “Only the Beginning”, peaking at No. 5 on the Top Heatseekers chart.

Rise to Stardom

The next year, Jonah and the rest went on their first tour – “Taking You” – before in April 2017 releasing their second EP “Something Different”, which was followed by another headlining tour, “Something Different Tour”. Just two months later, Why Don’t We released their third EP “Why Don’t We Just”, which at the time became their highest rated release as it reached No. 2 on the Top Heatseekers chart.

Thanks to the success of their music, they were noticed by several record labels, and in September 2017 signed their first contract with a major label Atlantic Records.

The following month their next EP live, entitled “Invitation”, came out, their first release to reach the Billboard 200 chart, at No. 113, while it again peaked at No. 2 on the Top Heatseekers chart. Their next EP – “A Why Don’t We Christmas” – actually reached No. 1 on the Top Heatseekers chart.

“8 Letters” and Newest Endeavors

Before they started working on their debut studio album, the five went on a tour in support of the EP “Invitation”, and they also collaborated with YouTube sensation, Logan Paul.

Logan helped the band film several music videos, including for the song which they did as a collaboration -“Help Me Help You”. Their debut album “8 Letters” was released on the 31st August 2018 to negative reviews, but it still reached No. 8 on the US Billboard 200 chart, while in Australia it climbed to No. 10. The titular song achieved gold status in the US and Canada, and the album spawned hits such as “Trust Fund Baby”, “Hooked”, and “Talk”. Since then, they’ve also released their sixth EP – “Spotify Singles” – and are working on another album which will be released late in 2020.
