Introduction

If you’ve watched the movie “The Little Rascals”, you have surely noticed Darla, little blond girl with a huge smile and playful personality, who was played by little Brittany Ashton Holmes. Where is Brittany now? Why didn’t she go back to acting after such huge success?

Early life and Education

Brittany Ashton Holmes is born on 27 February 1989, in California, USA. Despite her being extremely popular even before she was in elementary school, she was successful in hiding most if not all of information about her childhood and family.

The names and professions of her parents are not disclosed and it isn’t known whether or not she has any siblings. Her parents were very supportive of her acting career, but they never appeared on TV and weren’t a focus of Holmes’ short stardom. The latest information in 2019 states that she is still in her university, and is focusing hard on graduating in the field of political science.

Career

Holmes’ career started in 1994, when she was only five years old. She was chosen from amongst a bunch of other children to portray Darla in “The Little Rascals”, a big film that was based on the book “Our Gang” by Hal Roach.

She acted alongside names such as Travis Tedford, Bug Hall, Blake McIver Ewing and Kevin Jamal Woods in the movie which was a huge success, and grossed more than $67 million at the box office. Holmes became instantly famous worldwide, and became a household name. Her wide smile made millions fall completely in love with her. Holmes continued acting in several TV film roles, which only increased her recognition. In 1995 she played Dana in “Red Shoe Diaries” and “Julie” in Ellen. She was noticed in “Death Benefit” from 1996 as Cynthia Coates, as well as Amy Carver in the sci-fi horror movie from the same year, “Inhumanoid: Circuit Breaker”.

She also had a minor part in the 1996’s remake of the famous science fiction movie “Humanoids from the Deep”, in which she appeared as a girl on a boat. After 1996 she took a long break from her acting career, and has since gone “incognito”. Some sources claim that she worked at a Starbucks for a while, so she could pay off her tuition. In 2014, 18 years after her disappearance from the scene, she made a brief comeback when she appeared in TV movie “We Hate Paul Revere” as Townslady Britt. The movie was a comedy-satire set in colonial Boston, with the main roles played by Adrian Wenner and Ethan Sandler, and the plot focusing on two brothers who are trying to fit in while the city is preparing for revolution.

Also starring were Ron Livingston as Paul Revere, as well as Olafur Darri Olafsson and Scott Adsit, however, AMC decided to pass on moving forward with this project after seeing the pilot.

Nominations and Awards

Despite starting her acting career when she was only five, Holmes has earned herself a plethora of awards and nominations. She was nominated in 1996 for the Young Artist Awards for her performance as Julia in an episode of “Ellen”, in the category Best Performance by an Actress under Ten – Television.

However, in the same event she was the joint winner of the award in category Best Performance by a Youth Ensemble in a Motion Picture for her reputedly astonishing portrayal of Darla in “The Little Rascals”, together with her young colleagues Kevin Jamal Woods, Travis Tedford, Bug Hall, Ross Bagley and Juliette Brewer.

Personal Life

Not much is known about Holmes after she retired and pulled away from the public’s eye.

However, she did appear for the reunion celebration of the 20th anniversary of “The Little Rascals”. During the reunion, she disclosed that she had married a couple of months before, and that she left her childhood acting career so she could pursue her education in political science. She also said that she doesn’t plan on returning to the acting scene, and that now when she’s all grown up she finds her addiction to the entertainment industry ‘truly embarrassing’. She lives with her husband in San Marcos, California.

Despite not being active on popular social media platforms and not having a profile on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook, her MySpace page is still operating. She loves to travel and is working to build a career in political science. It isn’t known if she and her husband have any children.

Net worth

Since she quit public life back in 1996, nothing is known about any real estate or cars that she may own.

However her short but fruitful career had brought her enough profit to save for her older years. According to number of sources, as of early 2020, her net worth is estimated at approximately $6.3 million!

Physical characteristics

Holmes was considered to be a rather cute kid, especially due to her wide smile and golden locks, and her comeback in 2014 made everyone comment on how she’d become a beautiful woman. She is around 5ft 3ins (1.6m) tall, and weighs around 110lbs (50kgs). She has blond hair and her eyes are round and hazel.
