In his early years, Mike Wolfe worked in various odd jobs, including as a bike repairman and delivery driver, but his passion for collecting and restoring old items never waned. He began his career as an antique picker, by scouring flea markets and garage sales, searching for hidden treasures that he could buy and resell at a profit.

American Pickers

“American Pickers” is a highly popular American reality TV show that premiered on History Channel in January 2010. The show has since become one of the most-watched and longest-running reality shows on the channel, with a dedicated following of fans who love to watch the adventures of the show’s hosts, Frank Fritz and Mike Wolfe.

The premise of “American Pickers” is simple but highly entertaining – Frank and Wolfe traveled across the US in search of hidden treasures, vintage collectibles, and antique items that they could buy, restore, and sell at a profit. They explored old barns, attics, basements, and other forgotten places in search of rare and unique items that have been lost to time.

The show’s popularity has only continued to grow over the years, with the series reaching its 24th season in 2023. As of this year, “American Pickers” has aired over 350 episodes, with each episode featuring new locations and discoveries that keep fans tuning in week after week.

The success of the show can largely be attributed to the personalities of its hosts, Frank Fritz and Mike Wolfe. Both men are known for their passion for vintage items, their quirky personalities, and their ability to turn a profit on items that others might overlook. Fans of the show love watching Frank and Mike interact with each other, and with the people they meet on their travels, making each episode a unique and entertaining experience.

Despite their success, Frank and Mike have had their share of challenges over the years. In 2021, it was announced that Frank would no longer be a part of the show, leading to speculation about the reasons behind his departure.

Frank and Mike’s feud

Frank and Mike’s friendship has been at the core of “American Pickers” since the show premiered. In large part, their friendship and chemistry are exactly what made the show so popular and entertaining. However, it appears that the chemistry between the two only existed while filming, and not so much in their personal lives.

The coldness between them became evident after Frank took a break from “American Pickers” as he underwent a back surgery. Around that time, Frank also let his fans know that he was diagnosed with Chron’s disease. His recovery lasted for about two years, during which he experienced significant weight loss.  Over the course of these two years, Frank claims that Mike never expressed concern about his health, practically disappearing from his life after a friendship of nearly four decades, but that’s only one of the issues that caused the apparent falling out.

In an interview with “The Sun” magazine, Fritz expressed his belief that the show was favoring Mike over him, as Mike was the one who had bigger scores. While Frank claimed to have no problem with being out of the spotlight, he went on to say that Mike perhaps had a problem with it, and wanted more star-billing. Fritz further shared that he thought Mike wanted to replace him with his brother, Robbie, but gave no indication as to why Mike would do that. Since then, Robbie has indeed been on the show instead of Frank, with no further indication as to whether or not Frank will ever return. Despite all that, Frank still wishes to return to show, but that decision remains in the hands of the directors.

Ultimately, it remains vaguely unclear as to why the two had such a rough falling out. It’s evident that Mike and Fritz changed over the years, and likely grew too much apart from each other. Despite their argument, both of them expressed their good wishes to the other, and explained that there is no bad blood between them.
