Adam C. Goldberg is an American actor, filmmaker, photographer and musician, possibly best known for appearing in the movies “Saving Private Ryan,” “Dazed and Confused,” and “A Beautiful Mind.”
Age, Early Life, and Education Background
Adam Charles Goldberg hails from Santa Monica, California, and was born under the Scorpio zodiac sign on 25 October 1970, which makes him 53 years old as of 2023. He’s the son of the former CEO of Goldberg and Solovy Foods, Earl Goldberg, and his wife, Donna Gable, who is a psychologist. The actor’s dad is of Ashkenazi Jewish roots – from Lithuania, Russia and Romania – and his mom is now a non-practicing Catholic who is of German and half-Mexican descent. He was brought up alongside his brothers Eric and Barry in Los Angeles, California.
Goldberg developed an interest in acting at an early age, and was enrolled at the prestigious Lee Strasberg Theater & Film Institute when he was 14 years old. Goldberg made his TV debut in an episode of the sitcom “Designing Women” in 1990. He then played delivery boy Leo in the CBS sitcom “Double Rush,” and appeared in five more series including the hit sitcom “Friends” and the drama “Relativity” before the end of the 20th century. His next notable roles were in the Fox series “The $treet” in 2000 and 2001, the sitcom “Joey” in 2005 and 2006, and the HBO comedy-drama “Entourage” in 2007.
In 2009, Goldberg was approached by the creator, Noah Hawley, for the role of Detective Delahoy, a New York City detective who refuses to go to the hospital despite having brain cancer, in the short-lived 2009 crime series “The Unusuals.” 2012 saw him cast as Ray Harper in the CBS police procedural drama “NYC 22,” which was followed by an appearance as Grandy Numbers in the acclaimed black comedy crime series “Fargo.” He thereafter made regular appearances in “The Jim Gaffigan Show” in 2015 and 2016, “Graves” in 2017, and “God Friended Me” in 2019. Goldberg began starring as Harry alongside Queen Latifah in the CBS crime drama “The Equalizer” in 2021.

Movies
Goldberg made his film debut in the 1992 comedy-drama “Mr. Saturday Night,” which was the directorial debut of the filmmaker Billy Crystal. His second major film role was in the 1993 comedy, “Dazed and Confused” and he rose to prominence when he played the wisecracking and tough infantryman Mellish, in the acclaimed 1998 Tom Hanks-starred war film “Saving Private Ryan,” directed by Steven Spielberg. 1998 also saw Adam write and direct the film “Scotch and Milk.” In 2001, he shared the screen with Russell Crowe in the biographical drama “A Beautiful Mind”, and was nominated for a Circuit Community Award (ACCA) for his performance. He then starred alongside Denzel Washington in the sci-fi action film “Déjà Vu” in 2006.
Adam landed a voicing role in the 2011 animated film “A Monster in Paris”, and in 2015, he wrote, directed and appeared in the comedy-drama “No Way Jose.” He went on to star in several other movies, including “Rebirth” and “Between Us” in 2016, and the Jason Momoa and Bruce Willis-starred crime comedy “Once Upon a Time in Venice” in 2017. Most recently in 2019, Adam appeared alongside the likes of Nicolas Cage and Laurence Fishburne in the crime thriller “Running with the Devil.”
Photography and Music
Goldberg shoots primarily on expired Polaroid and film. His first book contains a limited-edition vinyl version of his album “Home: A Nice Place to Visit.” The songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Goldberg has composed songs for various films including “I Love Your Work” and “The Hebrew Hammer” both in 2003 and “No Way Jose” in 2015. He released his debut album entitled “Eros and Omissions” under the name LANDy in June 2009. He later changed his musical name to The Goldberg Sisters, and went on to record three more albums. In 2011, Goldberg performed live with his band in “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.”

Personal Life
Goldberg is married to the American designer and artist, Roxanne Daner Adam, who is the co-founder and Creative Director of the Los Angeles-based graphic design studio and branding agency, Ludlow Kingsley. Before exchanging vows (October 2014), Goldberg and Roxanne suffered a stillbirth tragedy when she was pregnant with her first son, as Adam revealed during an interview with Marc Maron on “WTF Podcast” in early 2014. He told him, ‘…My girlfriend — we’ve been together for several years — had a stillborn child about a year and a half ago. I’ve talked about it but not really in a public fashion. Totally awful, especially because I had been ambivalent of having children.’ During the interview, Goldberg confirmed that his wife was pregnant again, and in November 2014, the couple welcomed a son they named Bud, and in September 2018, they had another son, Sonny Goldberg.
Previously, Goldberg was in an eight-year-long romantic relationship with the French-American actress, singer-songwriter, and film director, Julie Delpy who is a two-time Academy Award nominee with over 30 film credits to her name. In 2001, he began dating the Emmy Award-nominated American filmmaker and actress, Natasha Lyonne, who is famous for her appearance in the Netflix comedy series “Orange Is the New Black,”. After their separation, he began seeing the American producer and actress, Christina Ricci (2003-2007).
