Early life and education

David Lee Gallagher was born on 9 February 1985, in College Point, New York USA. His parents are Darren James Gallagher and Elena Gallagher, however, they divorced when he was still a toddler – his mother had custody over Gallagher, and soon after married a man named Vincent Casey.

David is of Irish and Cuban ancestry, and carries American nationality.

He has four younger half-siblings, Michelle, Kelly, Kyle, and Killian, who is diagnosed with autism.

When he was just two years old, Gallagher began modeling and performing for various commercials in New York City. Some of the corporations that hired him were Fisher Price, Walt Disney World, Burger King, and Tyson Foods.

Gallagher attended Chaminade College Preparatory School, located in the San Fernando Valley region of California US, from where he matriculated in 2003. He graduated from the University of Southern California, School of Cinema-Television (CNTV) in 2007.

Career

Gallagher made his TV debut at the early age of eight in 1993, when he had a role in the soap opera “Loving”.

He landed his first feature film role that same year, when he portrayed Mickey, the son of Kirstie Alley and John Travolta, in the comedy film “Look Who’s Talking Now”. Two years later in 1995, he was on Broadway as a part of “A Christmas Carol” production. During this time, he was also a star of various TV movies, most notably “Bermuda Triangle”.

He once again accompanied Travolta in 1996, when they both acted in the film “Phenomenon”. In that same year he landed the recurring role of Simon Camden in “7th Heaven”, the family drama series that aired for 11 seasons and became the longest-running series of that type in the history of television, as well as The WB Network’s highest-rated series.

He took a break from filming the series in the eighth season so he could attend college, but returned as a smaller part in the show for its ninth and tenth seasons. During this time, he also appeared in several movies, such as “Little Secrets” and “Richie Rich’s Christmas Wish”. In 2003, he won the Teen Choice Award in the category Choice TV Actor: Actor/Drama.

Between 1994 and 2002, he was nominated for five Young Artist Awards, and in 2004 a for Teen Choice Award.

In 2005 Gallagher was the co-producer and the star of an adaptation of the Gothic and philosophical Oscar Wilde book, “The Picture of Dorian Gray”.

In September of the next year, he had a brief role as Buck Winters in “Numb3rs”, in 2007 starred in the horror movie “Boogeyman 2”, and in 2008 he was in the first episode of season 6 of the crime series “CSI: Miami”. That same year, he was a co-star in “Saving Grace”, the TNT drama series in which he portrayed Paul Shapiro. He also appeared in “Bones” as a character called Ryan Stephenson, and in the CBS series “Without a Trace”, in which he portrayed Jeff Ellis.

In 2009 he reprised his role of Buck Winters for “Numb3rs”, and he also appeared briefly in “Smallville”.

In the next few years, he had cameos in several famous TV series, such as “The Vampire Diaries”. “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”, “CSI: NY” and “Criminal Minds”. In 2014, he portrayed Lyle Soames in the fantasy film “In Your Eyes”, and the next year landed a role in “Hallucinogen”, a horror movie directed and written by Susannah O’Brien.

In 2017, he co-starred in the TV drama film “Born and Missing”, and in 2020 had the guest role of Sawyer in TV action series “S.W.A.T.” Gallagher is announced to play the character called Cpl Joe Keller in the upcoming TV series “D.P.D. Echo 1”.

Gallagher has also done some voice acting. He is mostly known for voicing Riku in the English dubbed version of the video game franchise “Kingdom Hearts”, as well as for providing the voice of Soiji Amasawa in the “Whispers of the Heart”, the animated Japanese romantic drama movie created by Studio Ghibli.

As his youngest step-brother has autism, Gallagher is a supporter and representative of many associations that are trying to find a cure for autism, and to support people suffering from this condition, most notably the organization called Cure Autism Now.

Despite many rumors, he is not related to fellow actor of the same surname, Peter Gallagher, known for his roles in movies such as “American Beauty”, “While You Were Sleeping”, “The Player” and “Sex, Lies, and Videotape”. He is also not to be confused with the Australian footballer of the same name, David Gallagher.

Despite what some people think, he is not gay and is known for having relationships with famous Hollywood beauties such as Megan Fox and Shannon Woodward. In 2005, he had a relationship with the model and actress Jillian Grace, who is known for her roles in movies “Epic Movie”, “The Comebacks” and “The Agonist”, as well as for being Playboy’s Playmate of the Month in March 2005.
