Jay played the role of Vic Munoz, one of William’s high school friends who helps him write and publish articles about the band.
In the following years, Jay appeared in numerous critically acclaimed and commercially successful films. In 2010, he starred opposite Alice Eve in the romantic comedy “She’s Out of My League”, in which Jay played the character Kirk, a socially awkward airport security agent who is deemed by his friends as being unworthy of dating Molly, a gorgeous and successful event planner (played by Alice). In the same year, Jay voiced the lead character, Hiccup, in the animated adventure film “How to Train Your Dragon”, centered on a young Viking boy who forms an unlikely friendship with a dragon he trained to hunt. The movie was both a commercial and critical success, and a first entry in what would become a trilogy – Jay reprised the role of Hiccup in the film’s two sequels “How to Train Your Dragon 2” (2014) and “How to Train Your Dragon: Hidden World” (2019), as well as in several short films, animated series, and video games based on the original movies.

Roles in TV series
Jay’s career in television began with a starring role in the popular Canadian coming-of-age show “My Hometown” (1996-1998), set in the fictional small town of Maplewood, Quebec. This early success led to his casting in the critically acclaimed television series “Undeclared” (2001-2002), created by Jude Apatow, in which he played Steven Karp, a college freshman trying to navigate the complexities of campus life. From 2005 through 2006, he played the lead character Skip Ross, in the short-lived comedy drama “Just Legal”.
Jay also lent his voice to animated TV series such as “Dragons: Riders of Berk” (2012-2014) and “Dragons: Race to the Edge” (2015-2018), reprising his role as Hiccup from the “How to Train Your Dragon” movies.
