Who is Leslie Hope?
Leslie Ann Hope was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, on 6 May 1965 – her zodiac sign is Taurus and she holds both American and Canadian nationality. She is an actress and a film director who became popular after starring as Teri Bauer in the action crime series “24”, created by Robert Cochran and Joel Surnow, and which also starred Kiefer Sutherland, Mary Lynn Rajskub and Carlos Bernand. Aired from 2001 to 2010, the story follows Jack Bauer who is fighting terrorists to save his people from diseases and death. The series was a huge hit winning 72 awards including two Golden Globes, and becoming nominated for 208 others.
Early life, family and education
Leslie was raised alongside her older brother Stephen, by their father Frank Hope who was a car mechanic, and their mother Ann who was a teacher at a local elementary school – the family moved three time before Leslie turned 18. She became interested in acting at the age of seven, when she began watching TV with her mother, and went on to practice acting at her elementary school, before joining her St. Michael’s University’s School’s drama club. Leslie was also physically active, as she played several sports including tennis and soccer, and took part in most events organized at school. In 1981, she and the future famous actor and film director Max Martini lived on the same campus, although Max’s classes were held on another campus.
Upon matriculation in 1982, Leslie decided to focus on her acting rather than to pursue a college degree.
Roles in movies
Leslie has been credited with appearing in over 110 movies and TV series, so were going to mention some of her most notable performances in this article.
She made her debut film appearance in 1981, when she portrayed Penelope in the drama “Ups & Downs”, which failed to attract much attention and three years later, she portrayed the supporting character Joanie in the film “Love Streams” which was directed by John Cassavetes. The year 1988 saw her appear in the drama movie “Talk Radio” which starred Alec Baldwin and Eric Bogosian, while she also appeared in the romantic comedy “It Takes Two” and the crime film “Kansas”.
She had an opportunity to star alongside Charlie Sheen and Emilio Esteves in the action black comedy thriller movie “Men at Work” in 1990 and in 1993, she starred as Elizabeth in the supernatural horror thriller movie “Doppelganger”. In 2000, Leslie starred in the George A. Romero’s horror thriller movie “Bruiser”, which also starred Jason Flemyng and Peter Stormare, and the year 2002 saw her play Charisse Darrow in the supernatural fantasy movie “Dragonfly” starring Kevin Costner, and which follows a doctor who is contacted by his late wife through one of his patients who nearly died.
One of Leslie’s most notable appearances in movies has been in the 2008 martial arts film “Never Back Down” which starred Sean Faris, Amber Heard and Cam Gigandet, and which follows a teenager who finds out that there is an underground fight club at his new high school – Sean Faris and Cam Gigandet received an MTV Movie Award for Best Fight for their performance. In 2009, Leslie appeared in the political thriller movie “Formosa Betrayed”, and thne portrayed Sidney Greenstreet in the crime movie “Jesse Stone: Thin Ice”. Two of her latest appearances in movies have been in the romantic gothic film “Crimson Peak” released in 2015, and the drama movie “Lie Exposed” which came out in 2019.
Roles in TV series
Leslie made her debut TV series appearance in 1984, when she guest starred as Linda in a single episode of the anthology series “CBS Schoolbreak Special” – the following year saw her play her first lead character – Cammie Springer – in the prime time soap opera “Berrenger’s”, while she also began playing her first recurring character, Linda Martin in another prime time soap opera “Knots Landing”.
Leslie subsequently appeared in single episodes of several series, such as the crime drama “Hunter” in 1987, the anthology series “American Playhouse” in 1989, and the science fiction series “SeaQuest DSV” in 1994.
In 1996, Leslie portrayed Meredith Carson in two episodes of the fantasy comedy series “Early Edition”, and in 1998 appeared in a single episode of the science fiction series “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine”, and two episodes of the medical drama “Chicago Hope”. She went on to star as Darcy Kipling in the episode “Alien Radio” of the science fiction series “The Outer Limits”, and in 2000, Leslie guest starred in single episodes of two series – “Judging Amy” and “Level 9”. She portrayed her next lead character, Lisa Cohen in 2003, when she appeared in 13 episodes of the crime series “Line of Fire”.
Leslie starred in four episodes of the political drama series “Commander in Chief” in 2005 portraying Melanie Blackston, and the following year played the supporting character Lily Rader in the series “Runaway”. In subsequent years she could be seen in an episode or two of many series. such as the police procedural series “CSI: Miami”, another police drama “Law & Order: Criminal Intent”, and the medical series “Private Practice”. She played Kristina Frye in four episodes of the critically acclaimed drama series “The Mentalist”, and then in 2012 starred as Tess Cole in eight episodes of the found-footage supernatural horror series “The River”.
The following year saw her play a supporting role in the post-apocalyptic science fiction series “Revolution”, and then play supporting characters in three other series: “NCIS”, “The Strain” and “Tyrant”.
Three of Leslie’s most recent roles in series have been as the supporting character Anita Gibbs in eight episodes of the legal drama “Suits” and the anthology horror series “Slasher: Guilty Party” in which she played the lead character Judith both in 2017, and in two episodes of the action series “Station 19” in which Leslie appeared as Battalion Chief Frankel in 2018.

Husband and children
Leslie has been married twice – she met her first husband Jamie Angell, an American writer and actor, in 1992 while they were shooting for the same series together; Jamie is today perhaps best known for his voicing roles in the animated series “The Simpsons: Night of the Living Treehouse of Horror” and “Disenchantment”. On 28 May 1993, Leslie gave birth to their son McKenzie James Angell, and a year later Leslie and Jamie married in a private ceremony attended by only their closest friends and family – the actual marriage lasted for two years as they divorced in 1996.
She was introduced to Adam Kane, an American film producer and director, at a party organized by a mutual friend, and after around two years of dating, they married in a small ceremony in 2005 – the two decided not to have children but to maintain focus on their careers, but they divorced 10 years later.
As of September 2020, Leslie is single, was married twice, and has one son.
Hobbies and other interests
Leslie is not a huge fan of the social media networks, which is why she isn’t active on Instagram, but has a Facebook page onto which she mostly uploads pictures related to her roles in films and TV series.
Her main hobby is travelling and Leslie has been to many Canadian cities and visited many US states such as New York and California where she’s spent a lot of time shooting – she has also been to several European countries, vacationing in Italy and France.
