High School Career

At the age of six, Sean McVay moved with his family to Brookhaven, Georgia, and there attended Marist School, where he started playing American Football, joining the War Eagles as a defensive back and quarterback. Thanks to his skills, Sean reached 1,000 rushing yards and passing in consecutive seasons, which made him the first player in the school history to achieve that. Sean finished his high school career with 2,600 rushing yards and 40 rushing touchdowns, and amassed 2,500 yards and 18 touchdowns in his senior year, leading the team to set a 26–3 record, and became the state champion. Distinguishing himself as a player, Sean was named the Georgia 4A Offensive Player of the Year.

College Career

Upon matriculation in 2004, Sean McVay became a student at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, from which he obtained his B.S. degree in Health and Sports Studies in 2008. He continued his career as a part of the RedHawks college football team, playing in the position of wide receiver from 2004 until 2007. Sean then became the winner of the 2007 Miami’s Scholar-Athlete Award. He finished his college playing career setting the record of 39 receptions and 312 rushing yards.

Professional Coaching Career

Right after graduation, Sean started pursuing his professional career as an American Football coach. In 2008, he was hired in the position of an assistant wide receivers coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL), under head coach Jun Gruden.

In the next year, Sean worked as a quality control/wide receivers coach at the Florida Tuskers of the United Football League (UFL).

Washington Redskins

In 2010, Sean McVay started working as an assistant tight ends coach for the Washington Redskins of the NFL, under head coach Mike Shanahan. In the following year, he was promoted to the position of a tight end coach, serving there until January 2014, when he became an offensive co-ordinator under head coach Jay Gruden.

Los Angeles Rams

In January 2017, Sean gained international fame when he was hired as the 28th head coach of the Los Angeles Rams – at the age of 30, he became the youngest head coach in the history of the NFL since 1938, surpassing 27-year-old Art Lewis.

Anyway, the team improved their results and his debut season with the Rams became their winning season, and they amassed the top scoring offense in the NFL, and Sean was named the 2017 NFL Coach of the Year by the Pro Football Writers of America. Unfortunately, the team didn’t have any major success during the 2019 season, and even missed the playoffs.
