Narvel Blackstock is an American television producer, music manager, and a former steel guitar player; he’s regarded as the one who helped Reba McEntire become a successful musician and actress. He has worked as a producer on such films as “Is There Life Out There?” (1994), and “Secret of Giving” (1999), among others.

Narvel Blackstock Biography- Age, Childhood, and Education

Narvel Blackstock was born on the 31st August 1956, in Tarrant County, Texas USA, the son of Narvel Leroy Blackstock and Gloria Elizabeth Alexander. He spent his childhood in his hometown growing-up with his sister, Patricia Ann Blackstock.

Career

He started his career as a steel guitar player, and after a few bands he became a member of Reba McEntire’s band. At first, Reba and the whole band struggled to make an impact, but with the start of the ‘80s, Reba was becoming more popular. After her career took a rise, Narvel acted as her manager, and with him by her side, Reba became a widely known country singer, and would later also launch an acting career, for the success of which Narvel was partly responsible.

Narvel started the Starstruck Entertainment, through which he produced a number of films starring Reba, and he would also become a manager of Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton. The first film in which Narvel is credited as the executive producer is “Is There Life Out There” (1994), starring Reba, Keith Carradine and Genia Michaela. Four years later the film “Forever Love” followed, again with Reba as the star, while in 1999 Narvel signed his name on the third film “Secret of Giving”, with Reba McEntire in the lead role, this time next to Thomas Ian Griffith and Ronny Cox.

He later started working with Blake Shelton, and produced a couple of TV specials, including “Blake Shelton Live: It’s All About Tonight”, and “Blake Shelton’s Not So Family Christmas” (2012). In 2012, he was the executive producer on the TV series “Malibu Country”, once again starring his now ex-wife Reba, while in 2013 he was the executive producer of the television special “Kelly Clarkson’s Cautionary Christmas Music Tale”.

Born Reba Nell McEntire on the 28th March 1955, in McAlester, Oklahoma USA, she is the daughter of Clark Vincent McEntire, and his wife Jacqueline. She has a brother Pake, and two sisters – Susie McEntire-Eaton, who is a Christian music singer, and Alice Foran, who is now a retired social worker and lives in Lane, Oklahoma.

Reba became interested in music from an early age, and self-taught herself to play the guitar. She would join other siblings during travels, singing various songs and forming the group Singing McEntires, performing at rodeos, and even recording the song Reba wrote, “The Ballad of John McEntire”. Despite school obligations, Reba continued to pursue music, and in 1974 performed the national anthem at the National Finals Rodeo in Oklahoma City. She was noticed by Red Steagall, whom she left in awe, and he offered to help her jump-start her career as a country music singer.

However, in 1979 she released her second studio album “Out of a Dream”, which received much better reviews and charting, and Reba rose to stardom, so far releasing 33 studio albums – some of the most popular releases include “Whoever’s in New England” (1986), which became her first No. 1 album and the first to achieve platinum status, then “What Am I Gonna Do About You” (1986), another No. 1 album, and “Reba” released two years later. She has enjoyed success ever since, particularly with albums It’s Your Call” (1992), “Read My Mind” (1994), “Reba: Duets” (2007), and “Keep On Loving You” (2009).

She has become the record holder of No. 1 albums by a female country artist with 16, and has sold more than 65 million albums in the US, and over 90 million worldwide. Her most recent album is “Stronger Than the Truth”, released in 2019.

Before marrying Narvel, Reba already had one failed marriage; in 1976 she married steer wrestling champion Charlie Battles, who was 10 years older than her. The two were living on a ranch in Oklahoma, but she divorced Charlie once her career took a turn for the better. The couple officially divorced in 1987.
