Who is Ruairi O’Connor?
Ruairi O’Connor was born in Howth, County Dublin, Ireland, on 9 July 1990 – his zodiac sign is Cancer and he holds Irish nationality. He is an actor who might be known best for his portrayal of Henry Tudor (Henry VIII), one of the lead characters in the historical drama mini-series “The Spanish Princess” created by Emma Frost, and which also starred Charlotte Hope and Olly Rix. The story follows Catherine of Aragon, the Princess of Spain, as she’s trying to climb to support the throne of England.
Childhood and education
Ruairi was raised an only child in Howth by his parents, who bought a stud farm when Ruairi was 14 and the family thus moved to the countryside to work on it.
Ruairi became interested in acting during his first year at high school, and so joined the school’s drama club and appeared in nearly all the plays performed at the school, mostly playing lead characters – his teacher recommended him to her friend who worked at a local theatre, and Ruairi then got to appear in several theatre plays.
He was also physically active, and was an avid soccer player who played for the school’s team. Upon matriculation in 2008, he took a three-year break from studying to work on his acting skills, before enrolling at The Lir Academy at Trinity College Dublin, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in acting in 2015.
Roles in movies
Ruairi made his debut film appearance in 2012, when cast to play Niall in the drama “What Richard Did”, written by Malcolm Campbell and directed by Lenny Abrahamson, and which starred Jack Reynor, Fionn Walton and Gavin Drea – the story follows the life of Richard Karlsen, a successful 18 year-old athlete.
In 2016, Ruairi played Weasel in the sports comedy drama “Handsome Devil”, written and directed by John Butler and which starred Fionn O’Shea, Ardal O’Hanlon and Amy Huberman. The film follows the friendship between Ned and Conor who have to share a bedroom at a boarding school – it won five awards and was nominated for eight others. The following year saw him star as Noah in the short romantic video “Aquilo”, and in 2018 Ruairi played Keyan Spears in the musical drama “Teen Spirit”, written and directed by Max Minghella and which starred Elle Fanning, Agnieszka Grochowska and Archie Madekwe.

Ruairi’s most recent role in a film has been in the 2020 thriller crime drama “The Postcard Killings” which starred Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Famke Janssen and Cush Jumbo, and he has recently been cast to appear in two upcoming movies: the horror mystery thriller “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It” and the drama “Clear Lake”.
Roles in TV series
He made his debut TV series appearance in 2015, when cast to play Killian in the pilot episode of the comedy “Tinderface” which was to follow 15 different Tinder dates, however, the pilot episode wasn’t picked up by any network.
The year 2016 saw Ruairi play Simon in the episode “I Wanna Be Like You” of the comedy drama “Can’t Cope, Won’t Cope”, which follows the friendship between two girls and their different views on life – in the same year, Ruairi appeared in the episodes “God Rest You Merry”, “Vera” and “Stolen Waters” of the critically acclaimed romantic war drama “My Mother and Other Strangers”.
He gained recognition after he was cast to play Michael Vincent in seven episodes of the comedy drama “Delicious” created by Dan Sefton, and which starred Iain Glen, Dawn French and Emilia Fox – the series is about hunger, love and infidelity in the county of Cornwall.
Ruairi’s most recent appearance in a TV series has been in a 2020 episode of the drama “The Morning Show”, which starred Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon and was a big hit, winning five awards while it was nominated for 21 others including three Golden Globes.
Love life and girlfriend
Ruairi is quite secretive when it comes to his love life and hasn’t talked about any girls he might have dated, which is one of the reasons why there are rumors circulating the internet about him being gay, however, no proof has been provided to support these, and Ruairi hasn’t addressed the rumors.

It is believed by many that Ruairi was in a relationship with Charlotte Hope, a British actress who appeared alongside him in the series “The Spanish Princess”, and who might be known best for her portrayal of Myranda in the series “Game of Thrones”. The two have given several interviews together, and Charlotte has complimented Ruairi many times during these, however, neither of them have confirmed the rumors regarding their alleged relationship.
As of November 2020, Ruairi is single, hasn’t married and doesn’t have children.
Hobbies and other interests
He is interested in photography, and many pictures taken by him can be found uploaded onto his Instagram account.
He is also a lover of animals, and his pet dog can be seen featured in numerous of his pictures.
Ruairi likes to travel and has been all around Europe, visiting his favorite countries Greece, Norway and France – he likes to travel by ship and helicopter more than by anything else.
He prefers to be in nature surrounded by trees and animals rather than in overcrowded cities with lots of noise, and a few of his favorite things to do are hike up in the mountains, go camping and visit national parks.
