American actress Patricia Castle Richardson was born in Bethesda, Maryland USA, under the  zodiac sign of Pisces on 23 February 1951. She’s appeared in over 50 movies and TV series, but is perhaps still known best for starring as Jill Taylor in the critically acclaimed family comedy series “Home Improvement”, which also starred Tim Allen and Earl Hindman, and was created by David McFadzean and Carmen Finestra. The series follows the lives of Tim ‘The Tool Man’ Taylor and his family, it aired from 1991 through 1999, and won 43 of its 106 award nominations.

Education and early life

Patricia was raised alongside her sisters Ann, Cathy and Lynn in Bethesda, by their mother Mary Elizabeth Howard and father Lawrence Baxter Richardson; no other details have been disclosed about Patricia’s family, as they prefer to stay away from media.

She studied at Holton-Arms School prior to moving to Hockaday School, from which she matriculated in 1969; it was while at Hockaday that Patricia became passionate about acting, and began appearing in school plays. She continued her education at Southern Methodist University, where her classmates included future actor Stephen Harold Tobolowsky, and screenwriter and actress Elizabeth Becker Henley; Patricia graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in drama in 1972.

She was focused on theatre for the first a couple of years of her career, and her Broadway debut was portraying Gypsy Rose in the 1974 production of “Gypsy: A Musical Fable”.

Roles in TV series

Patricia’s debut TV series role was playing Nurse Marion in three episodes of the 1979 romantic drama “The Doctors”, and the first half of the ‘80s then saw her appear in an episode or two of the comedy “Love, Sidney”, another comedy “Double Trouble” and the adventure comedy “ABC Weekend Specials”.

In 1988, she played the lead character Kay ‘K. K.’ Dunne in all the 13 episodes of the comedy “Eisenhower & Lutz”, created by Allan Burns, and which also starred Scott Bakula and DeLane Matthews; it follows the lives of lawyer Bud Lutz and his girlfriend Megan.

Patricia spent the ‘90s focused on shooting for “Home Improvement”, and thus had only one other TV series role, playing Annabel Hayes in the 1999 episode “Wanderlust” of the crime mystery “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”.

From 2002 through 2005, she starred as Dr. Andy Campbell in the drama “Strong Medicine”, created by Tammy Ader and Whoopi Goldberg, and which also starred Rosa Blasi and Jenifer Lewis; it follows the lives of doctors working at Tirrenhouse Women’s Clinic which has only female clientele, and the series won 10 of its 28 award nominations. The remainder of the decade saw Patricia appear in only a single TV series, portraying Sheila Brooks in nine episodes (2005-2006) of the drama “The West Wing”.

In 2015 and 2016, Patricia played Helen Potts in two episodes of the comedy “Last Man Standing”, which starred Nancy Travis and Tim Allen, and was created by Jack Burditt. It follows the life of a man, his wife and their three children, the series aired from 2011 through 2021, and won five of its 19 award nominations.

Patricia’s three most recent TV series roles have been in the 2021 episode “Docked” of the crime action “NCIS”, the 2022 episode “Genuine Models Inc. (No. 176)” of the crime mystery “The Blacklist”, and two episodes of the 2023 romantic drama “Grey’s Anatomy”.

Roles in movies

Patricia’s debut film role was playing Moss’ Mother in the 1980 horror thriller “Christmas Evil”, while some of her following roles were in the 1984 science fiction horror “C. H. U. D.”, the 1987 romantic crime drama “Hands of a Stranger”, and the 1989 family comedy “Parent Trap III”.

What marked the ‘90s for her was perhaps portraying the main character Connie Hope in the 1997 drama “Ulee’s Gold”, written and directed by Victor Nunez, and which also starred Peter Fonda and Christine Dunford. The film follows a beekeeper who’s trying to pull his family back together, and it won eight of its 25 award nominations, including an Oscar nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Peter Fonda).

Patricia could then have been seen appearing in the 2001 crime comedy “Viva Las Nowhere”, the 2005 short comedy “Candy Paint”, and the 2007 comedy “California Dreaming”.

The year 2013 saw her portray Maggie Tannenhill, one of the main characters in the romantic family comedy “Snow Bride”, directed by Bert Kish, and which also starred Katrina Law and Jordan Belfi; it follows gossip-tabloid reporter Greta Kaine who’s fallen for the son of Senator Tannenhill while working on a story about him.

Some of Patricia’s most recent film roles have been in 2022, in the action crime mystery “County Line: All In” and the action “County Line: No Fear”, and the 2023 drama “Chantilly Bridge”.

Other credits

Patricia directed the 1999 episode “Neighbors” of the series “Home Improvement” and produced the 2008 documentary movie “Long Story Short”.

Some of her recent talk-show appearances have been in “History of the Sitcom”, “Daily Blast Live” and “Made in Hollywood”.

Patricia’s been nominated for 14 awards, which include four Primetime Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 1994, 1996, 1997 and 1998, all for her performance in “Home Improvement”.

There are only two men whom Patricia’s been with, that we know about. She was in a long-term relationship with American retired psychologist Mark Cline; the two began dating while they were both attending Southern Methodist University, and were together for more than five years.

In 1982, Patricia exchanged vows with American actor Ray Baker, whom she met when they were cast to appear in the same theatre play; she gave birth to their son Henry on 22 February 1985, and their twins Joseph and Roxanne followed on 3 January 1991, but Patricia and Ray divorced in 1995.

She’s yet to speak about other men whom she’s maybe dated, Patricia seems be unattached as of May 2023, was once married to Ray Baker, and has three children with him.

Patricia’s revealed that her father was in the US Navy, and that the family thus moved several times while she was growing up.
