His online fame has helped him gain a lot of advertising revenue with the main source being his YouTube channel. He’s also gained sponsorships and endorsements from a few companies.
Early Life and Career Beginnings
Thomas lived relatively out of the spotlight for most of his youth – but he became fascinated with make-up. He experimented with it a lot during these years, though he was never confident in wearing make-up in public until around 2014. He developed his skills, mostly with the help of accessible tutorials such as YouTube videos, started gaining confidence, and began wearing make-up in public.
Around the same time, he began establishing himself on social media platforms such as Instagram and YouTube on which many make-up gurus have found success, ouTube in particular, helping to even launch the careers of several, turning them into stars of the industry. He wanted to achieve the same feat and began posting regularly on the site, and his channel grew steadily, posting more tutorials and tips. He started an advocacy channel for the minorities, and was leaning towards helping keep people together, especially those being victims of bullying.
Jeffree Star
Jeffree Star was one of the first male personalities to become a beauty and make-up guru on YouTube, though this wasn’t the case at first. He initially wanted to start a music career, and began promoting his music through the website MySpace. This led him to a recording contract and he soon launched his debut studio album called “Beauty Killer”, but which is his only album to date. The album featured performances from Nicki Minaj and during this peak of his music career, he was labeled as the next Lady Gaga. However, following numerous legal issues with his management Akon, he abruptly decided to leave this career.
In 2014, he started a channel on YouTube, and turned a different direction entirely. He started the company Jeffree Star Cosmetics, and began promoting his products through his channel. He quickly became a star on the platform, being one of the first male personalities to handle make-up. “Forbes” later reported that he was earning millions through YouTube alone, and this didn’t even include his direct business earnings. In 2018, he was named as the fifth highest-earning YouTube personality. Apart from his makeup skills, Jeffree is known for feuding with other YouTubers and celebrities, being vocal about his opinions about them.
Thomas’ Feud with Jeffree Star
Thomas has been at odds with Jeffree for a long time, though the basic reason for it has never been admitted. Many of his followers started noticing that he disliked the Jeffree Cosmetics products during a video in which he declared that he did not use products from a lot of companies. He even went on air stating that he would never use any of Jeffree Stars’ products.
Then, oddly enough, in the next video he began using Jeffree Star’s name by posting a video about him, following one of Star’s make-up videos.
This series of videos about Star would prove to be his most popular, not because of his make-up ability, but rather the story behind it. In these videos, he often makes unnecessary remarks about Jeffree’s physical appearance, and also mocks his way of doing make-up. That along with insults towards his products made it seem like he hated the guru. It didn’t take long for other people to notice how he seemed insensitive, insincere, and a generally negative person. A lot of his critics started attacking him for being a bully, when he was supposedly advocating for bullying to end.

The Feud Continues
Following issues of racism and derogatory comments towards minorities, Jeffree Star was in a lot of heat online. These issues even led to him ending all association with several YouTube make-up artists he had been collaborating with for a long time. Halbert took advantage of this period to talk about issues of racism and sexism. While he didn’t mention Star directly, a lot of his statements implied that he was talking about the other YouTuber.
As typical of Star, he didn’t let this one slide, as he began posting online through Twitter about the truth behind the video. It turns out that just a few days prior, Halbert approached Star to supposedly fix things between them.
They talked it out and forgave each other, even making clarifications, explaining each other’s sides. Now that he looked back on it, it seemed curious that Halbert was looking for more information regarding the racism issue. Nevertheless, it was opened-up, and now the information was used against him. Star then posted text conversations between himself and Halbert, with the other supposedly apologizing for the video he released. He later released a follow-up video apologizing once more for his actions, though a lot of people felt that it was insincere, and he didn’t even address Jeffree directly.
Personal Life
It is known that Thomas is in a relationship with a man named Kevin. The two have posted photos together, wearing make-up or showcasing a public display of affection. He doesn’t talk about his family openly and the most that people know is that he has a brother. He has been labeled by a lot of people as bizarre, often posting condescending tweets before deleting them an hour later. He’s also been accused of hosting fake giveaways and contests to gain additional subscribers – he’s failed to respond properly once the issue was pointed out by one of the contestants, and he tried avoiding the issue altogether.
