Walton is an American actor, and has appeared in a wide range of television shows and movies, including the FX series “Justified” the HBO series “Vice Principals”, and the Quentin Tarantino films “Django Unchained” and “The Hateful Eight”, among numerous other roles he’s had during his career.

Walton Sanders Goggins Jr. was born on 10 November 1971 in Birmingham, Alabama, USA, the son of Walton Sr. and Janet Long. Although born in Birmingham, Walton grew up in Lithia Springs, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta.
He attended Lithia Springs High School, after which he enrolled at Georgia Southern University; however, he left his studies after only a year.
Career Beginnings
Before he made his acting debut, he worked as a valet, a construction worker, and a security guard.
He had a few minor roles in Georgia before he met Ray McKinnon when the two worked together on the television movie “Murder in Mississippi”, which was Walton’s official debut.
Throughout the ’90s, Walton featured in a number of minor roles, building his portfolio. Some of the projects in which he appeared include “In the Heat of the Night”, “Queen” and “The Cherokee Kid” among many others.
Rise to Prominence
He began the new millennium with the role of Stan Roberts in the film “The Crow: Salvation”, with Kirsten Dunst, William Atherton, and Debbie Fan in the lead roles, while in 2002, he won his first major role, as Detective Shane Vendrell in the TV thriller crime-drama series “The Shield”.
The show revolves around a Los Angeles police precinct and focuses on the activities of the Strike Team, an elite group of officers led by Vic Mackey, played by Michael Chiklis, who use unorthodox and often illegal methods to maintain law and order in their district. Goggins’ character, Shane Vendrell, was a member of the Strike Team and a close friend of Mackey’s. However, over the course of the series, Shane’s actions become increasingly reckless and dangerous, leading to tragic consequences.
Goggins’ performance in “The Shield” was widely praised by critics and helped to establish him as a talented character actor. The show’s success also raised his profile in the industry, and led to more high-profile roles in both television and film.
Concurrently, Walton secured several other notable roles. He played the role of Deputy Steve Nash in Rob Zombie’s 2003 horror film “House of 1000 Corpses”, after impressing Zombie during his audition, and appeared alongside co-stars including Sid Haig and Karen Black. Then in 2007, Walton played the role of Tino Armani in the comedy film “Randy and The Mob”. Continued Success and “Justified”
Following the end of “The Shield”, Walter had a few supporting roles in several films, and then secured another long-running role as Boyd Crowder in the FX crime drama series “Justified” (2010-2015), which was based on a character from Elmore Leonard’s novels. The show was created by Graham Yost and also starred Timothy Olyphant, Nick Searcy, Joelle Carter and Natalie Zea.
The series is set in rural Kentucky and follows US Marshal Raylan Givens (Olyphant) as he navigates the complex world of crime and corruption in his hometown. Goggins’ character, Boyd Crowder, is a childhood friend of Givens who becomes a major player in the local criminal underworld, but also maintains a complicated relationship with Givens.
Goggins’ performance in “Justified” was widely praised and earned him critical acclaim, as well as several award nominations, including three Primetime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. “Justified” was a major success for Goggins and helped to launch him even further into stardom. In Quentin Tarantino’s 2012 film “Django Unchained” Walton Goggins played the role of Billy Crash, a sadistic overseer on a plantation in Mississippi. Three years later, Goggins again worked with Tarantino, this time in the Western “The Hateful Eight”, playing the role of Chris Mannix, a former Confederate soldier turned sheriff who becomes embroiled in a deadly stand-off at a remote cabin during a blizzard. Also starring Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell and Jennifer Jason Leigh, the film received critical acclaim for its tense and gripping storytelling, as well as its stellar ensemble cast.
Next, he starred in the HBO comedy series “Vice Principals” which aired from 2016 to 2017, as Lee Russell, a conniving and manipulative high school administrator who teams up with fellow vice-principal Neal Gamby (played by Danny McBride) to take down their boss and become principal.
While “Vice Principals” only lasted for two seasons, it was another success for Goggins, as he was nominated for a Critics’ Choice Television Award for his performance.
From 2017–2018, Walton Goggins starred in the History Channel military drama series “Six” as Richard “Rip” Taggart, a former Navy SEAL and the leader of the show’s main SEAL Team Six unit.
