Peter Josh DeLuise is an American actor, producer, screenwriter and director, born on 6 November 1966, in New York City, USA. He’s known for being the director and writer of several episodes of the franchise “Stargate”, as well for his acting role in “21 Jump Street”.

Early Life

Peter John DeLuise is the first of three sons of Carol Arthur and Dom DeLuise, of Italian descent. Shortly after Peter’s birth, the family moved to a house in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles. Despite the fact both of his parents were actors, Peter and his younger brothers Michael and David didn’t live lavish childhoods – in his teens, Peter worked in an ice-cream parlor to earn extra money, and had to borrow his mother’s Chevette.

His undiagnosed dyslexia and difficulty at socializing brought him problems, especially in school. He was also an over-eating boy, a trait that made him develop a rather funny behavior with his peers: ‘I was the fat kid, so as a defense mechanism, I was the jokester’.

Not everything was hard for teen Peter, though. He was captain of his high school’s football team, a fact that made him quite popular. He refused to indulge in drugs and alcohol like some of his classmates: ‘I was more interested in girls. But if I got a girl, she’d be more interested in getting cocaine’.

After his matriculation from Palisades High, Peter moved out of his house and started looking for acting jobs, working in a flower shop to support himself.

Career

Acting Career

Peter made his acting debut at an early age, in his father’s movie “Hot Stuff” in 1979. In 1983 he landed another role in the movie “Happy”, and two years later in the series “The Facts of Life”. Although he had small roles in these productions, it encouraged him to keep pursuing an acting career.

From 1985 onwards, Peter was part of the main cast of various movies such as “Free Ride”, “The Midnight Hour” and “Listen to Me”. However, on TV he only landed minor roles until 1989, when he was cast in “21 Jump Street” as a main character, Officer Doug Penhall, a role he’s mostly remembered for to this date.

Starring Johnny Depp, this FOX’s series centered on a group of young undercover detectives, who investigated young people and crimes related to them. The show ended in 1991, and received an Imagen Foundation Award as “Best Drama Series”.

When “21 Jump Street” ended, Peter acted in various movies, and made a brief appearance in the famous TV series “Friends” as Carl. It wasn’t until 1994 that he landed another main role on TV though, when he was cast as Seaman Dagwood in “Seaquest DSV”.
