Tequan ‘T-Rich’ Richmond was born in Burlington, North Carolina USA, on 30 October 1992, so his zodiac sign is Scorpio and he holds American nationality. He is an actor and a rapper, probably best known for portraying Drew Rock in the TV series “Everybody Hates Chris”.

Early life and education

Tequan spent the first nine years of his life in Burlington, where he was raised an only child by his father who is a janitor and his mother who is a nurse. His family then moved to Los Angeles in California, where Tequan entered elementary school, and started rapping with his friends for fun.

He grew up being interested in basketball, and watching most of the National Basketball Association (NBA) games on TV but was never good enough to play for his school’s team, although he didn’t really plan on becoming an actor either. He studied at a local high school in Los Angeles where he began modelling, and upon matriculation didn’t enroll at college but focused on rapping, modelling and acting.

Career as a rapper, model, and actor

Tequan could have been seen featured in many magazines in the 2000s, such as “Sports Illustrated”, “National Geographic”, and “Reader’s Digest”. He also featured in the 50 Cent and The Game’s music video “Hate It Or Love It” in 2005.

He made his debut TV series appearance as a child actor in “ER” in 2002, which was followed by a single episode of many series, such as “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”, “The Law and Mr. Lee”, and “Mad TV” all in 2003. Tequan made his film debut appearance in 2004 in “Ray” portraying Ray Charles Jr., while he also played R.J. Holden in the series “Cold Case” in the same year. He appeared in a single episode of two series – “The Shield” and “Strong Medicine” -in 2005 before being invited to portray his first lead character, Drew Rock in the comedy series “Everybody Hates Chris” which starred Terry Crews and Tichina Arnold, and follows a teenager who is trying to survive living with his weird family while attending an all-white school.

Tequan was shooting for the show from 2005 to 2009 when it ended.

He portrayed a basketball player in the film “The Celestine Prophecy” in 2006, and then went on to appear in the episode “Checkmate” of “Numbers” in 2008, and the episode “Wonderful Wonderful” of “Weeds” in 2009. He was invited to portray The Appleman in a single episode of “Detroit 1-8-7” in 2010, before appearing in the episode “A Step Too Far” of “Private Practice” and the episode “We Are Family, Part 2” of “Love That Girl!” in 2011.

He starred in two episodes of “Mr. Box Office” in 2012 before being invited to portray his second lead character – TJ Ashford – in the romantic crime series “General Hospital”, which starred Maurice Benard and Steve Burton, and follows criminal activities happening in the city of Port Charles’ hospital, hotels, and diners. Tequan was shooting for the show until it ended in 2018. Meantime he appeared in two movies in 2013, entitled “Blue Caprice” and “House Party: Tonight’s the Night”, and in 2016 in the movie “Ringside”.

Some of his latest roles in films have been in “Nowhere, Michigan” in 2017, “Savage Youth / Thriller” in 2018, and “House Party 6 Let’s Get Turn Up”, in 2020 while three of his latest appearances in TV series have been in “All Night” in 2018, “The Unsettling” in 2018, and “Boomerang” in 2019 in all of which he has portrayed recurring characters.

Awards and accolades

Tequan won a Black Reel Award for an Outstanding Supporting Actor, Motion Picture and a Pan African Film Festival Award for a Rising Star in 2014 for his performance in “Blue Caprice”, and in 2015, ‘16 and ‘17 was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for an Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series for his performance in “General Hospital” not winning any.

Love life and relationships

Tequan knew Montana Tucker, an American singer, actress and dancer for years before they started dating in 2010. He was already a recognized actor by then, and the two spent most of the time away from one another as she was singing and dancing while Tequan was filming for his movies and TV series. On 15 July 2002, he posted a status update onto his Facebook profile about how much he misses his girl and how he hates not being able to talk to her. It is believed that this was one month after the two broke up, and it appears as Tequan hasn’t had another girlfriend after her, while there are rumors circulating the internet that Tequan and Montana eventually got back together.

She became a model at the age of eight, when she began appearing in commercials of popular brands such as “BMW” and “Sketchers”, and she gained recognition as a dancer when she was 13 and danced for Ashanti. She sang the track “Step Up 2 the Streets” for the film “Block Buster”, and can also be heard singing the main soundtrack of the film “Bring It On 5”.

Hobbies and other interests

Tequan has been a fan of basketball since he was a teenager and he occasionally plays it with his friends – his favorite basketball player is Michael Jordan. He plays a variety of other sports including golf, soccer and tennis, while he also enjoys going bowling with his friends. He tried driving a Go-Kart for the first time at the age of 11, and enjoys visiting the Six Flags Magic Mountain and the Go-Kart World. He likes to travel, and has been to many US states while he has also had an opportunity to visit Italy, Spain and England. Tequan is interested in music and has released several of his rap songs, and is currently working on becoming a music producer.
