Gaite Sara Kim Jansen was born on 25 December 1991, in Rotterdam, Netherlands, and is an actress as well as a model, known for her work in various Dutch film projects. In recent years, she’s also made a breakthrough in Hollywood and the British Entertainment industry. One of her most notable projects was in the third season of the UK TV series “Peaky Blinders”.

Early Life and Career Beginnings
At a young age, Gaite developed an interest in acting and began pursuing it as a child, an endeavor that was supported by her family. She was cast in her first professional role when she was 12 years old, when she participated in the Amsterdam-held event, the 48 Hour Film Project, for which she won the Best Actress Award, encouraging her to continue with her dream.
In 2011, she attracted more attention as she starred in the art-house film “170Hz” in which she played a deaf teenager, conversing mostly in Dutch Sign Language – the film tells the story of two deaf children and their love for each other, its title being a reference to the highest frequency which one of the characters can hear.
She won a Best Actress Award from the Netherlands Film Festival and the Seattle Film Festival for her performance. While working on acting projects, she also underwent training at the Maastricht Academy of Dramatic Arts. In 2014 Jansen made her stage debut, joining the prestigious Amsterdam Theatre Group, and appeared in the production of “Hamlet vs. Hamlet” held in Medea, in which she played the character Ophelia. At around the same time, she was cast in a lead role for the film “Supernova” which was submitted to compete as a part of the Berlinale Film Festival in the Generations category.
A year later Gaite had another starring role, in the local film “Greenland”. She continued to show her prowess and versatility in acting, being cast in the film “Therapie” in which she played a suicidal woman. The film is a Dutch adaptation of the Hebrew film “BeTipul”, which tells the story of a psychologist who works with various patients while also being a patient himself, seeking out psychological help. The show was very successful in Israel, winning numerous awards. It was later made into various adaptations around the world, including the US where it was named “In Treatment”.
Rise to Fame
In 2016, Gaite gained more mainstream roles, with the first being the Dutch film “In My Father’s Garden”, based on the Jan Siebelink book of the same name, in which she starred alongside Barry Atsma and Marcel Hensema. The film gained significant attention, as it was selected to be a potential candidate for Best Foreign Language Film during the 89th Academy Awards, but wasn’t shortlisted – the award would be given to an Iranian film called “The Salesman”, an adaptation of the play “Death of a Salesman” popularized by Arthur Miller. The film was also a co-production with France.
During the same year, she got one of her biggest roles so far as she was cast in a recurring role in the BBC series “Peaky Blinders”, in which she portrayed the Russian Grand Duchess Tatiana Petrovna. The show stars Cillian Murphy, Paul Anderson, Joe Cole, and Helen McCrory as members of the Shelby crime family, based on the urban youth gang of the same name, and tells of their exploits following the end of World War I. Her character played a brief romantic interest of Cillian’s character, and was involved in several criminal activities as the season progressed.
Recent Projects
In 2017, Jansen worked on another BBC project – “Line of Duty” – which is considered one of the best-performing series aired on BBC 2. The show initially started in 2012, and continued its run due to high demand along with critical acclaim. The show tells the story of a firearms officer played by Martin Compston, who is transferred after he disagrees in covering-up an unlawful shooting incident by his former team. He then works in the anti-corruption unit alongside an undercover officer, Hana Reznikova played by Vicky McClure, uncovering corruption within the police force. She appeared during the fourth season.
Her latest project is the 2019 television series “Jett”, which aired on Cinemax and starred Carla Gugino. It tells as the story of a criminal who after getting out of prison, is back at it again, dealing with various eccentrics and dangerous personalities. She was in the series for its entire run of nine episodes, playing the role of a prostitute who is a close friend to Gugino’s titular character. The show gained good reviews, particularly for its noir theme which the show executes well. It is not known if the show will have a continuation, with no announcements made after its first season.
Personal Life
Gaite is in a relationship though she has not shared a lot of details about it or her partner, save for a few photos she’s posted on Instagram, even though they’ve been together for over five years. One of her favorite films is 1999’s “Sixth Sense”, known for helping establish the career of M. Night Shyamalan. During her free time, she supports various charity endeavors, including Happy Caravan, an organization that aims to provide education to children in need throughout Europe. They’ve recently established an online school, mainly as a result of the outbreak of the coronavirus which has left many staying in their homes.
