Who is Calum Hood?
Calum Thomas Hood was born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, on 25 January 1996 – his zodiac sign is Aquarius and he holds Australian nationality. He is a bassist, singer and songwriter, who is best known for being a member of the pop rock band 5 Seconds of Summer.
Childhood and education
Calum was raised in Mount Druitt, New South Wales alongside his older sister Mali-Koa by their mother Joy Hood, who was until recently working in the superannuation field, and their father David Hood who was employed at Amatil Coca-Cola.
Mali-Koa is a singer and songwriter currently living in London, England, known for her singles “Pretend” and “Dancer”.
Calum studied at Norwest Primary School, at which he met Michael Clifford, the future member of his band. He went on to attend Norwest Christian College at which he met Luke Hemmings, and they performed a song by Secondhand Serenade together at a school show. At the time, Calum considered becoming a soccer player, and was sent to a training camp in Brazil, however, he formed his band and decided to focus solely on music (he was 16 years old) and thus moved to London.
His parents didn’t support his decision, and his mother threw away all the clothes from his closet but this didn’t make Calum change his mind, as he quit high school before matriculation, and dedicated virtually all his time to his band.
Career as a musician
Calum, Luke and Michael started uploading their cover songs onto Luke’s YouTube channel. Ashton Fletcher Irwin soon joined them, and the boys went on to form the band 5 Seconds of Summer. They were soon contacted by several major music labels, and eventually signed with Sony/ATV Music Publishing.
The boys released their debut single on 5 February 2014 entitled “She Looks So Perfect”, and it topped charts in four countries including the UK’s Singles Chart, the first Australian band to top a UK chart in 14 years. Their eponymous debut album came out on 22 July 2014, topping both the Australian and US Albums Charts, and their second album – “Sounds Good Feels Good” – followed on 23 October 2015, topping the charts once again but this time in 10 countries. The lead single “Want You Back” from their third album came out on 22 February 2018, and was followed by the song “Youngblood,” which has to this day been the boys’ most popular release – their third album “Youngblood” came out on 15 June 2018, topping the Australian and US Albums Charts once again.
Their fourth album “Calm” was released on 27 March 2020, reaching No.1 in Scotland, the UK and Australia, and appearing in charts in 25 other countries –additionally, every single the boys have so far released has appeared in at least one chart.

Calum has openly dated three girls, with his first girlfriend whom the public knows about being Caitlin Davis, an actress and producer known for her roles in “The Cobblestone Corridor” and “The Plug”.
They dated for only several months before Calum broke it off and started seeing Lucy Kaufmann, a non-celebrity girl – the two were often seen dining together and walking hand in hand in the streets of London, but the relationship lasted for only around half a year. In 2016, Calum dated Nia Lovelis, who is a drummer and a singer perhaps best known for being a member of the band Hey Violet, but they broke-up in December of the same year.
