Who is Bumper Robinson?
Larry C. “Bumper” Robinson II was born on 19 June 1974, in Cleveland, Ohio, USA, and is an actor, but best known for his work in various voice roles. He has voiced Bumblebee in “Transformers: Animated” and also several comic characters, including Cyborg in “Justice League: Doom”, and Falcon in “Avengers Assemble”.

Career Beginnings
Bumper aspired to become a successful actor at a young age, and after completing his education, he began his pursuit of professional work on stage. Even at a young age, he worked on several productions before getting his breakthrough in the 1983 television movie “Cocaine and Blue Eyes” alongside OJ Simpson, playing the son of his character. At the time Simpson had not yet become involved in the crime that defined his life.
More opportunities opened up for Bumper throughout the 1980s, appearing as a guest in several programs such as “The Jeffersons”, “Punky Brewster” and “Family Matters”. He also played the character Leon in “Night Court” which aired on NBC, and follows the life of a young judge who works on the night shift of a municipal court in Manhattan; the show was largely successful during its run which lasted for eight years. Around the same time, he found his first opportunities in voice acting, beginning with the cartoons “The Flintstone Kids” voicing Philo Quartz.

The 1990s – Continued Acting Work
More voice acting opportunities presented themselves as Robinson’s career progressed, doing voice work for popular cartoons such as “Scooby-Doo”. He also appeared in live-action programs such as “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” before working on the television movie “Generation X, portraying the mutant Mondo. The movie is based on the Marvel series of the same name, focusing on a young group of mutants branching off from the X-Men. He then made guest appearances in shows “Touched by an Angel”, “Sister, Sister”, and “The Client”.
He attracted a bit of fame with numerous positive reviews for his performance in the miniseries “The Jacksons: An American Dream”, in which he portrayed Jackie Jackson. It aired on ABC, and as the name denotes, it focused on the well-known Jackson family in show business, and their time as the successful group The Jackson 5 including Michael Jackson, and Janet. He was then cast in the television sitcom “A Different World”, before gaining a recurring role in “Living Single” aired on Fox, and following the lives of friends living in Brooklyn.
Acting in the 2000s
In 2001, Bumper worked on the film “The Old Settler’ which was released by PBS. Afterwards he appeared in the Chinese-American film “Flatland”, which saw him work with Dennis Hopper. The film was shot in Shanghai, but didn’t gain a lot of attention in the US. In 2003, he became a part of the cast of the animated show “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” voicing the character James and Clifford Weaver, working on 11 episodes. Other programs he had as the years progressed include “The Game”, “CSI: NY” and “Bones”.
This decade saw him take a step towards doing more voice acting projects as he gained consistent work, voicing characters for “Futurama” and “Pinky and the Brain”, as well as on the Disney film “Brother Bear”, which tells the story of a boy who is turned into a bear and must adjust to this new life as he searches for a way to return to his human form. He also became a prominent voice in “Transformers: Animated”, voicing the Autobot Bumblebee, and characters, Blackout and Blitzwing.
Recent Projects
In recent years, Bumper has fully embraced his career in voice acting, and while he still takes a few live-action projects, his work is predominantly taken up by time working on various animated shows or video games.
From 2013 to 2019, he provided the voice of the Human Cannonball and Falcon for the animated series “Avengers Assemble” aired on Disney XD. While working on the show, he had several other projects such as “Ultimate Spider-Man”, “Marvel Future Avengers”, and “Lost in Oz”. One of his latest television projects is “The Owl House” which airs on the Disney Channel.
In video games, his work primarily consists of games that are related to various Disney intellectual properties. He’s also participated in the development of numerous Lego Games. A few of his more notable projects in recent years include “Spider-Man”, which was released for the PS4 in 2018.
The game has players involved in the story of Spider-Man, who tries to stop the villain Mister Negative from taking over the criminal underworld, while other developments happen in New York City. The film won numerous awards and was even considered for the prestigious Game of the Year title. He also worked on the game “Rage 2”, voicing several characters in the sequel to 2011’s Rage” created by Bethesda Softworks. The original game had a lot of potential, but was marred by unforeseen bugs during its release.
Personal Life
Bumper is married to Katherine Penton and they have a child together. He doesn’t talk a lot about his partner or their family life, preferring to keep them out of the spotlight. His nickname Bumper was given by his father when he was young, due to him clumsily bumping into things at the time. The name stuck and he has used it ever since. He isn’t very active online, preferring to stay away from any public attention.
