Early life, Education

Whitney Mathers was born on 16 April 2002 in St.Joseph, Missouri US. She is known as Eminem’s daughter, but actually she is not his biological daughter. Whitney is a daughter of Kimberly Anne Scott and her boyfriend Eric Hartter, a professional tattoo artist. Eminem and Kim met in high school. She had a twin sister Dawn. The two of them run from home and began to live with Eminem and his mother. Kim and Eminem started a relationship in 1989 and got married in 1999. It is believed that Kim had an affair with Eric before the divorce was finalized and got pregnant with Whitney. At the time when Whitney was born, Eric had problems with law and was sent to jail and her mother was a drug addict. So, none of her parents were able to take care of her. Eminem decided to adopt Whitney in 2005. He had a troubled childhood and didn’t want other children to go through the same. Eric died last year from overdose. Whitney is in high school. She wants to go in college and study science. Eminem keeps her from public life, as well as any controversies. However she has a great voice and passion for music, so the singer supports her talent.

The other one, Alaina Marie Mathers was born on 2 April 1993. She was also adopted by Eminem in 2002. Actually she is Whitney’s cousin. She died in 2016 as a result of drug overdose. Alaina attended public relations studies and graduated at University of Oakland.

The sisters are very close, but Whitney spends more time with Hailie. She finished high school in 2014 and continued her education at Michigan State University, where she graduated psychology. Hailie is an influencer, with more than 1.9 million followers on Instagram. She is dating a fellow student Evan McClintock, who is accepted from her family and the relationship is approved by her father.

Hailie was e reason for feud between Eminem and Machine Gun Kelly, an American rapper, who wrote inappropriate tweet for Hailie in 2012. Eminem asked for an apology since her daughter was only 16 at the time. They started sending messages trough lyrics, so many songs were recorded as a result of this situation. Eminem married Kim once more, in 2006. The second marriage lasted few months. Since then they have friendly relationship and share custody of the three daughters. There were rumors in 2010 that the couple is back together, but Eminem denied those media reports.

Father Eminem

Marshall Bruce Mathers III, known as Eminem was born on 17 October 1972 in St.Joseph, Missouri US. He is one of the most popular artists, a rapper, producer, songwriter and actor.

He was the only child. His father left the family and moved to California, where had two other children. His mother had another son later in life. Eminem was bullied as a child and beaten by black youths few times. He and his mother lived in a neighborhood with only three white households. He wanted to be a comic book artist. The first rap song Eminem ever heard was on the soundtrack Breking’ that was a gift from his mother’s half brother, Ronnie. He will become Eminem’s music mentor. Unfortunately, Ronnie committed a suicide in 1991 and that really hurt the singer. Eminem didn’t finish high school. He dropped off school at age of 17 and worked different jobs to support his mother. However he began rapping during high school and it was difficult for him to success in a dominant black industry.

The beginning of his career was in groups with whom he performed. His debut album was released in 1996 and it was called “Infinity”. When his daughter was born, Eminem worked 60 hours per week, had troubles to support his family and lived with his mother. He started to abuse substances and even tried to kill himself. In 1997 he published his first extended play “Slim Shady”. The lyrics refereed to mental instability, drugs, violence and sexual acts. The same year he competed in Rap Olympics and ended on second place. Dr.Dre, the record producer noticed him and they started working together. In 1999 Eminem’s second album was released “Slim Shady LP”, that was certified quadruple platinum. Dr.Dre had at least one guest appearance in the following albums.

In 2000 “The Marshall Mathers” was released and broke a record with 1.76 million copies sold in the first week. The album was certified diamond with 21 million copies sold. Eminem performed with Elton John on the 43th Grammy Awards in 2001. They have an interesting friendship. Beside the collaboration in music, Elton John helped him as his mentor when he was on rehab and called once a week to check on him. The next year the singer released “The Eminem Show”, which sold 27 million copies in the world and was the best selling album in 2002.

In 2004 “Encore” happened, another success for Eminem. He didn’t hide his addiction to prescription drugs. He had issues over the years, but in 2019 said that he was 11 years sober.

Many of his song’s lyrics started some controversies, because he didn’t hide his opinion to many situations as well as people, like Michael Jackson, President Bush and President Trump. All following albums were success for Eminem. He set many records with the albums and the singles. He is the only rapper with two diamond certified albums. Meanwhile he collaborated with other stars like Rihanna, Ed Sheeran, 50 Cent, Dj Kalil, Dr.Dre, Pink, Missy Elliot and others. His 11th and last album so far was released on 17 January 2020 “Music to be murdered by”. He was on four concert tours as headliner and published two books.

Eminem is very active since the beginning of his career. This year he performed at The Academy Awards ceremony with “Lose Yourself” and surprised the audience.

Actually he won an Oscar for the same song in 2002 and made a history as first rapper who achieved that. He has 15 Grammy Awards and other awards that make him greatest hip hop rapper of all time. Eminem made his movie debut with “8 miles”, starring with Brittany Murphy, Kim Basinger, Mekhi Phifer and others. The soundtrack of the movie was sold in 3.2 million copies and “Lose Yourself” was his first US Number one single. The movie had positive critics. The Marshall Mathers Foundation was founded so Eminem can help disadvantaged youth.

Eminem was sued a lot of times during his life, even from his mother in 1999. He got few years of probation for assault and on weapon charges in two different cases.

His lyrics were considered threats in many cases, especially against the American presidents, so questioning from the Secret Service is not something strange for him. Besides his three daughters, he has custody of his younger brother. He often mentions the children in his lyrics and wants to be their example. In “Going Through some changes”, he raps: “Hailie, this one is for you, Whitney and Alaina, too. I still love your mother that will never change. Think about her every day we just could never get it together.”
