Who is Deion Sanders?

Deion Luwynn Sanders Sr. was born in Fort Myers, Florida USA, on 9 August 1967 – his zodiac sign is Leo and he holds American nationality. He is an athlete, football and baseball coach and a sports analyst, who might be known best for having played for 14 years in the National Football League (NFL).

Early life and education

Deion was raised in Fort Myers, and became interested in sports while attending elementary school. He became serious about a career as an athlete while attending North Fort Myers High School, as he played baseball, basketball and football for his school’s team, excelling at both American Football and baseball.

When he matriculated in 1985, Deion was chosen for the Florida High School Association All-Century Team made up of 33 high school footballers who proved to be the best in the past 100 years. After matriculating, he was invited to play baseball for the Kansas City Royals but declined their offer.

He went on to study at Florida State University, playing football and baseball for them while he also ran track. Focusing mostly on football, he was chosen as the All-American cornerback in both 1987 and 1988, the latter saw him win the Jim Thorpe Award too, and he graduated in the same year.

Deion also holds a Bachelor’s degree in business administration which he obtained from Talladega College in 2020.

Baseball career

He became a professional baseball player when he signed with the New York Yankees competing in the Major League Baseball (MLB) on 22 June 1988, but started playing in the 1989 season. After only a single season, he left the Yankees and signed a contract with the Atlanta Braves, however, because of problems with his contract, he only played for them for a day.

After everything was settled, Deion continued to play for the Braves until 1996, when he moved  to play for the Cincinnati Reds, staying with them for a year before quitting baseball for three years. In 2001, he rejoined the Reds, but was fired after having played 29 games. He joined the Syracuse Chiefs, but soon had to leave them when a lawyer discovered that he was still involved with the Reds contract. Deion left the Chiefs, and came back to the Reds but not long after that announced that he was retiring from baseball.

Football career

In 1989, he was selected by the Atlanta Falcons and stayed with them for four years before signing a contract with the San Francisco 49ers, and played one of the best seasons of his career which made several football teams want him, including the New Orleans Saints, the Miami Dolphins and the Philadelphia Eagles – Deion eventually chose the Dallas Cowboys, and signed a seven-year contract worth $35 million with a bonus of $12.999 million for just signing. He went on to play for them until 2 June 2000, and then signed a contract with the Washington Redskins. He decided to retire in July 2001, but came back to football in 2004 and signed a contract with the Baltimore Raven, played only one season for them, all 16 games, and then in January 2006, Deion officially retired.
