Time will tell if he will also enter the acting field similar to his older brother.
Early Life and Career Beginnings
Sam grew up in a very artistic family, with his parents encouraging all their children to pursue their creative efforts. Both of his parents worked in the entertainment industry – his older brother Tom studied to be an actor. Sam didn’t initially intend to pursue acting as he was not that interested, but as he joined his father during workdays, he soon developed an interest in it, a flame which turned into a burning passion. However, he still had a long way to go before he could reach his brother’s footsteps.
He had achieved a bit of fame thanks to his brother’s popularity, and began taking advantage of it, creating social media platforms to capitalize on the public’s curiosity. This proved successful, and both his Twitter and Instagram accounts have gained a huge following – he’s featured his older brother Tom in his accounts, alongside his twin brother Harry.
YouTube Career and Professional Acting
Sam’s twin Harry developed a different interest in film, instead of acting creating short films. Sam encouraged his twin and also gained interest in his work. The duo started collaborating, sharing their creations with the world by launching a channel on YouTube.
The video-sharing platform is one of the most popular sites on the internet, attracting a huge amount of traffic each day. The duo began promoting their work in films, posting several called “The Holland Shorts” on their channel.
In 2012, he took his first step as a professional actor, cast in the disaster film “The Impossible”, starring Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor. The film is based on the experience of physician Maria Belon during the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, caused by a strong undersea earthquake of 9.1 magnitude on the Richter scale. The tsunami grew to above 100 feet (30 metres) once it hit land, and killed over 200,000 people in 14 countries.
It is considered one of the deadliest natural disasters in history, with India one of the most affected. The film proved successful, gaining mostly positive reviews, with Naomi Watts nominated for an Academy Award for her performance.
Recent Projects
After his first film appearance, Sam worked alongside his older brother Tom in his first directing feature called “Tweet”. The short tells the story of a boy who visits his grandfather and helps him build a birdhouse, and also featured his father, who actined and helped with the directing.
Over the years, numerous videos of the family have surfaced, mostly taken from home videos. Fan channels and fan profiles came to light with many focusing on the Holland siblings. His next project would be his twin brother’s short film called “Roses for Lily” which was posted online. He also began taking acting lessons and was coached by Tom. After his older brother was cast as Spider-Man, the siblings then started an online competition, with the winners gaining free tickets to the premiere of “Spider-Man: Homecoming”.
The brothers even created a specific YouTube channel to announce the winners, however, he wasn’t present during the premiere for reasons not shared with the public – the rest of his family were seen walking the red carpet.
One of his latest projects is a video called “The Holland Boys: Tom Holland and his Brothers” which is another YouTube feature.
