He won the BAFTA Special Award for his ‘development of new talent’, and his ‘outstanding contribution to the entertainment industry’ at the 2010 British Academy Television Awards. In the television category, he received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2018.

Simon is best known for being the ‘mean’ judge, as he often insults and laughs at the contestants’ poor auditions – his comments are notorious for being ‘blunt’ and ‘controversial.’

Simon is well versed in both the music and television industries, and shares his knowledge with the shows’ winners, and has promoted and produced albums and singles for the artists who have won or been part of the shows, and were supported by the viewers. Artists he has signed include Noah Cyrus, Little Mix, Susan Boyle, One Direction and Labyrinth. If I had them here drawing on the walls, I’d go nuts.’ His opinion quickly changed following the birth of his son, Eric. He has said that Eric and Lauren have brought so much positivity to his life, that they helped bring him out of his depression and make his life more normal. In interviews, he often gushes about his son and the changes he has brought to his life. As of May 2019, Simon’s net worth is estimated at £385 million, which is more than $450 million.

Career

Lauren is a socialite.

Personal life

While in their early twenties, Lauren met Andrew Silverman through a mutual friend.

The socialite was reportedly head over heels for the banker and property developer, and luckily, he felt the same way. The pair married in 2005 in New York in a Royal Wedding Ceremony, and in 2006, Lauren gave birth to their son, Adam. Sources close to the couple claim that their marriage quickly began to fall apart due to Andrew’s work schedule, which included long office hours, traveling and staying away from home and his family.

Lauren met Simon Cowell through her husband, as they were long-time friends, in 2006 while vacationing at Barbados’ Sandy Lane resort. Her affair with Simon only became public knowledge when they announced that she was 10 weeks pregnant with his baby – they had allegedly been dating for a year before she fell pregnant. The affair came as a massive shock to Andrew, who felt extremely betrayed by both his wife and his best friend.

Andrew was under the impression that their frequent vacations together were due to their close friendship.

According to their divorce papers, Lauren and Andrew decided to split due to her affair with Simon, but Lauren’s father released a statement through the DailyMail, in which he blamed Andrew for the affair. According to her father, Andrew was a ‘cold and careless’ husband who would leave his wife for months at a time to go on business trips. He went on to say that Andrew could not just keep throwing money at her, ‘… she couldn’t cuddle Gucci handbags and credit cards at night.’ During their public divorce, her ex-husband tried his best to remain out of the spotlight, as he considers himself a ‘regular’ person and is not interested in being featured in the media.

He spent his time focusing on his son, but in March 2014 he gave a statement to the the New York Observer, asking for respect and privacy during such a challenging time in his life. He also said that although the experience taught him a lot, he wanted to move on and focus on his son, his work and leading a healthy life for both of them.

Andrew’s business partner and brother, Alex, spoke out against Lauren in an interview with The New York Post, blaming her for the affair and saying that she cannot be turned ‘into a golden child’ and has ‘very poor roots.’ Lauren and Andrew share physical and legal custody of Adam. In August 2013, Lauren released a statement regarding her relationship with and divorce from Andrew Silverman, ‘I am committed to sorting things out with Andrew as amicably as possible, to ensure the well-being of our son. I would hope for some space and privacy in order to work through this.’

Their divorce was finalized on 4 December 2013, but Lauren chose to keep Andrew’s surname.

Simon spoke with The Mirror and shared, ‘It is not something I am proud of or wanted to happen in terms of hurting anyone. It just happened.’ In 2019, there were rumors that Andrew and Simon worked past the affair, and do not view each other as enemies. Following the divorce, Adam lived in Manhattan with his father, allowing him to remain in his private school. Lauren and Simon own property in New York City, so she is able to visit and spend time with Adam every second week. On 14 February 2014, she gave birth to Simon’s first child and her second son, Eric Philip Cowell, who was named after Simon’s father.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Simon said that during the first year of Eric’s life, he did not think Eric liked him. ‘He does remind me of me when I was younger, because he knows how to try it on and how to get away with things.’ Simon told the Daily Star that although he regretted the way their relationship began, he felt blessed to have Lauren and his son. ‘Eric is absolutely incredible and so funny. It [being a father] is the best thing that ever happened to me.’ Contrary to how Simon felt before Eric’s birth, he has expressed his desire for more children so Eric can grow up with siblings. Lauren has also spoken out about the 17-year age gap between her and Simon, saying that it doesn’t bother them or affect their love for one another.
