Who is Catherine Reitman?

Catherine Reitman was born in Los Angeles, California USA on 28 April 1981 – her zodiac sign is Taurus and she holds both Canadian and American nationality. She is an actress, film writer and producer, who might be known best for portraying the lead character in the comedy series “Workin’ Moms”, which she also wrote – the series also stars Dani Kind and Juni Rinaldi and has been airing since 2017. The story follows four mothers and friends living in Toronto in Canada, trying to balance their love and family life; the series has won four awards and has been nominated for 25 others.

Early life and education

Catherine was raised alongside her brother Jason Reitman, a film director, and her sister Caroline Reitman by their French-Canadian mother Genevieve Robert who was an actress, and their Slovak father Ivan Reitman who was a film director.

Catherine studied at Cate School at which she became interested in acting as a member of the school’s drama club, and appeared in most of the plays performed at the school. Upon matriculation in 1999, she enrolled at the University of Southern California from which she graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in acting.

Roles in movies

Catherine has been credited with appearing in over 50 movies and TV series and we are about to mention some of her most notable performances in this article.

She made her debut film appearance aged seven in 1988, when her mother got her cast in the comedy crime movie “Twins”, which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Danny DeVito and Kelly Preston, and which won four awards and was nominated for one Golden Globe. The following couple of years saw Catherine appear in movies such as “Ghostbusters II”, “Kindergarten Cop” and “Dave”, while she made her voicing debut in 1996 when she lent her voice to Nerdluck BUPKUS in the animated adventure comedy “Space Jam”.

2006 saw her play Monique in the romantic comedy “Soup of the Day”, written and directed by Scott Zakarin, and which starred Jon Crowley, Catherine and Patty Worthman – it’s about Brandon Craig who is dating three women at the same time. In 2009, she portrayed Zooey’s friend in the romantic comedy “I Love You, Man”, written and directed by John Hamburg, and which starred Paul Rudd, Jason Segel and Rashida Jones. It’s about Peter Klaven who goes searching for someone to be his best man.

Catherine played Vani in the 2010 comedy “How to Make Love to a Woman”, and was then invited to star in two short films, “Frank Advice” and “The D-Monster”. In 2015, she played Julia in the romantic comedy “Slow Learners”, and one of her most recent roles in movies has been in 2016, when she was invited to voice the lead character in the short film “Babble-On Begins: The Director’s Cut”.

Roles in TV series

Catherine made her debut TV series appearance in 2003, when cast to appear in the episode “My Three Witches” of the mystery fantasy drama “Charmed”, which starred Holly Marie Combs, Alyssa Milano and Brian Krause, and is about three witch sisters who are fighting evil.

She went on to appear in single episodes of many series, such as “Judging Amy”, “All of Us” and “Kath & Kim”, and appeared in many others before being invited to voice The Kid in the science fiction fantasy comedy “The Ballad of Mary & Ernie”, which starred Vanessa Celso, Darcy Halsey and James Ellis Lane. The following years saw her appear in series such as the comedy drama “Weeds”, the comedy “Super Fun Night” and the comedy mini-series “Farmed and Dangerous”.

Between 2010 and 2016, Catherine played Maureen Ponderosa in seven episodes of the critically acclaimed comedy series “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” created by Glenn Howerton and Rob McElhenney, and which starred Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton. The series follows five friends who are proprietors of an Irish pub, and it won four awards while it was nominated for 15 others including three Primetime Emmys.

One of Catherine’s most recent roles in TV series has been in the comedy “Black-ish”, in which she portrayed Lucy in 21 episodes. The series stars Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross and Marcus Scribner, and is about a man who is raising his children in a white middle-class neighborhood – it has won 62 awards including a Golden Globe, and has been nominated for 173 other awards.

In 2018, Catherine was nominated for two Canadian Screen Awards for Best Lead Actress, Comedy and Best Comedy Series for “Workin’ Moms”, and in 2019 she was nominated for three Canadian Screen Awards: Best Comedy Series, Best Lead Actress, Comedy and Best Direction in a Comedy Program or Series – the same year saw her jointly nominated for an ACTRA Toronto Award for Outstanding Performance – Ensemble.

In 2020, she was nominated for two Canadian Screen Awards for Best Comedy Series and Best Direction, Comedy, while the same year saw her win two Gracie Awards for Outstanding Female Actor in a Leading Role in a Comedy or Musical and Outstanding Director – Comedy.

Love life and relationships

Catherine is quite secretive when it comes to her love life, but it’s known that she has been married to Philip Sternberg since 2009, and that they have two children together, born in 2013 and 2016.

Philip is a film producer, director and an actor, who might be known best for having served as Candor Entertainment’s President. He has been credited with appearing in five movies and TV series, some of which are the series “City Guys” and “Firefly”, and the films “First Flight” and “Southland Tales”. He has written the series “The Super” and the documentary film “Divorce Corp” and has directed nine episodes of the series “Workin’ Moms”. Philip has also been credited with producing one documentary film, and six TV series.

Catherine hasn’t talked about any other men she might have dated before meeting Philip, so as of November 2020, she is married and has two children.

Hobbies and other interests

Catherine is a family woman who spends most of her free time with her children, however, she still finds time to do a few things she enjoys doing for herself.

She is keen on travelling, although she hasn’t travelled as much since she welcomed her first child – Catherine’s acting career has taken her all around the US as well as to several Canadian cities, while she’s also had an opportunity to visit a couple of European countries, with Paris in France being her favorite place.

She is a lover of animals, with bears being her favorites, and occasionally goes to zoos.

In her spare time which is mostly very late at night, Catherine likes to watch movies starring some of her favorite actors – Robin Williams, Tom Hanks and Will Smith – such as “Good Will Hunting”, “You’ve Got Mail” and “Seven Pounds”.

Botched surgery

A lot of people noticed Catherine’s upper lip in the series “Workin’ Moms”, and claimed how she must have had a ‘botched surgery’ – somebody even uploaded ‘before and after’ pictures, but the girl in the ‘before’ picture isn’t Catherine, but rather a woman called Keara. Some of these fans have also claimed that Catherine’s upper lip is ruining the series for them.

Catherine hasn’t commented on this ‘botched surgery’, and it’s not known whether or not she has undergone plastic surgery – she has only stated how she has been teased about her upper lip since a very early age.
