Greyston, of part-Hungarian ancestry as both of his paternal grandparents were Hungarian immigrants, was raised on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia. While in high school he became drawn to music, and started playing guitar. This led to him becoming a member of a few bands, even forming his own hardcore metal band. However, he then moved to Vancouver to pursue acting, instead of a career in music.
Career Beginnings
In pursuit of his acting debut, Greyston attended a talent convention in Vancouver, where he was discovered by filmmaker David DeCoteau, and in 2004 he was cast in DeCoteau’s horror “The Sisterhood”, starring Barbara Crampton, Jennifer Holland and Michelle Borth. The following year he again featured in a DeCoteau horror, “Killer Bash”. He was slowly improving, and in 2007 secured his first recurring role, as Ray Prager Jr. in the TV crime-action series “Durham County” (2007-2010) and in three years appeared in all three seasons and 18 episodes of the award-winning series.
This was a turning point, as the particular role made him very popular with directors. While working on the series, he also featured in two more horror films, “Lost Boys: The Tribe”, and “Nightmare at the End of the Hall”, both in 2008.
Rise to Stardom
Greyston’s ongoing career reached a new level in 2010, when he starred in the indie television film “Fakers”, about three high school teenagers. Though he was a bit old to portray a teenager, he did a great job and received praise for his work.
He was making significant steps forward, appearing in television movies such as “Hannah’s Law” as Wyatt Earp, then in “The Horses of McBride” (2012), starring Aidan Quinn, MacKenzie Porter, and Kari Matchett, while in 2013 he co-starred next to Ty Olsson, Patrick Gallagher and Michelle Harrison in the sci-fi action film “Survival Code”, originally titled “Borealis”. However, it was 2014 that a turning point in his career happened. First, he was selected for the lead role in the fantasy-horror series “Bitten”, co-starring Laura Vandervoort and Greg Bryk. From 2014 to 2016, Greyston appeared in all 33 episodes, and received a few award nominations, though he didn’t get to take any of the awards home.
Nevertheless, his work certainly paid off, as since then he has made a number of other popular appearances.
Continual Success, What is Greyston Holt Doing Now?
Greyston was very busy in 2014; after “Bitten” he appeared in several television movies, such as “Lonesome Dove Church” and “The Christmas Secret”, and also featured in the horror film “See No Evil 2”. He continued pretty much successfully into recent years, mostly in television films, signing a contract with Hallmark channel. As a result, he could be seen in such films as “A Puppy for Christmas” (2016), then “A Very Country Christmas” (2017), and “A Very Country Wedding” (2019), finishing the series with “A Very Country Christmas Homecoming” (2020).
Furthermore, he portrayed Mikhail in the TV series “No Tomorrow” from 2016 to 2017, then played Kyle in the TV sci-fi thriller series “Somewhere Between”. In 2019, he co-starred in the not-so-popular retake on the life of Kate Kane, “Batwoman”, while most recently he was Scott Wilke in the TV series “50 States of Fright”, an anthology series that covers stories of urban legends from various places in the US.
Greyston is currently working on another television movie, “For Better or Worse”, which is in post-production.
