Michael Robert DeLuise was born in Los Angeles, California USA, on 4 August 1969 – his zodiac sign is Leo and he holds American nationality. He is an actor, film director and producer, and is perhaps still best known for his portrayal of one of the lead characters – Officer Joey Penhall – in the police procedural series “21 Jump Street”, created by Stephen J. Cannell and Patrick Hasburgh, and which also starred Johnny Depp and Dustin Nguyen. The story follows a police unit of young-looking people specializing in apprehending young criminals – the film won two awards and was nominated for two others.

Childhood and education

Michael was raised alongside his two brothers, Peter and David, in Los Angeles by their father Dom DeLuise, who was an American actor, film director and producer known for his role in the film “Fail-Safe”, the hidden camera reality TV series “Candid Camera” and the satirical western black comedy “Blazing Saddles”, and their mother Carol Arthur, an actress known for her supporting roles in movies created by Mel Brooks. Michael’s brother Peter is today an actor and a writer, while David is an actor.

Michael made his debut film appearance at the age of 10, when he was cast to appear in the action comedy drama “Hot Stuff” which starred his father, but then focused on his education.

Michael attended a local high school, at which he also played both football and soccer, but upon matriculation in 1987, he decided to concentrate on an acting career.

The year 2007 saw him portray Detective Soreson in the romantic thriller drama “He Was a Quiet Man”, written and directed by Frank A. Cappello, and which starred Christian Slater, Elisha Cuthbert and William H. Macy – the story follows an office worker who becomes famous after saving a girl’s life; the film won three awards.

The year 1988 saw him play Jay Warner in two episodes of the comedy “Eisenhower and Lutz”, while he also played Mitch in two episode of the sitcom “My Two Dads”.

Michael gained recognition in 1993, when he portrayed Andy Sipowicz, Jr. in 12 episodes of the police procedural drama “NYPD Blue”,  and also in 1994 when playing one of the lead characters, Tony Piccolo in the science fiction series “SeaQuest DSV”. The year 1997 saw him portray Officer Phil Roussakoff in the ensemble police drama “Brooklyn South”, and then appear in a single episode of the sitcom “3rd Rock from the Sun” in 1998, three episodes of the sitcom “Some of My Best Friends” in 2001, and a single episode of the comedy “Las Vegas” in 2004.

Three of Michael’s most recent roles in TV series have been in 13 episodes of the comedy drama “Gilmore Girls” in 2004, which starred T. J., two episodes of the police procedural series “CSI: NY” in 2005, and a single episode of the comedy drama “Bunheads” in 2013.

Michael has won a single award – a People’s Choice Award for Favorite Television New Dramatic Series in 1998.

Directing and producing

Michael has directed three movies: he worked on the comedy “Almost Pregnant” and the thriller “Stringer” both in 1992, and another comedy – “Between the Sheets” – in 2003.

He’s also served as the executive producer of three movies: “Between the Sheets”, the short drama “Quid Pro Quo” in 2006, and the documentary musical “The Source Family” in 2012.

Love life and wife

Michael is quite secretive when it comes to his love life but it’s known that he was in a relationship with Sherrie Rose, an American actress, film producer and director, who is known for her roles in the Italian natural horror movie “Killer Crocodile” in 1989, the action movie “No Retreat, No Surrender 3: Blood Brothers” in 1990 and the psychological thriller “Unlawful Entry”. The two dated from 1988 to 1990, and eventually became engaged but subsequently split – there are rumors circulating the internet that Sherrie became his wife, but that they divorced not long after. Michael was also in a relationship with the pornographic actress Lynn LeMay.

Michael hasn’t talked about any other women he might have dated before meeting Sherrie, and as of September 2020, he is single, hasn’t married and doesn’t have children.

Hobbies and other interests

Michael has been interested in music from a very early age, and today can play both the piano and guitar – he likes to listen to classical music and is also a fan of jazz and blues, while two of his favorite performers are Frank Sinatra and Muddy Waters.
